Match Thread Everton V Aston Villa. Sat Sep 13th. 3pm

They have a better striker, better full backs, better centre mids, attacking mids/wingers and centre backs seem a similar level. I also think Martinez and Pickford are at a similar level.
Martinez isnt even their first choice gk anymore, also they might appear better on paper that didn't stop Brentford and Crystal Palace easily beating them this season , still early but they haven't been good so far.

Into Harvey Elliott. Hard and early please.
Definitely spank that instant noodle-headed cart. (tbf I've seen videos of him and he comes across a decent chap, but still)

Villa won't be as wasteful as Brighton.
Maybe, but we will outscore them, as we will a lot of teams in and around us this season. I am Mr Positive this year.

Everton 3 - 1 Villa.

Despite Villa's poor start to the season I think this is our biggest test so far.

They have some very good players and a top manager and , for me , it's only a matter of time before they click.

So we need to start with high intensity, get an early goal and continue to play on the front foot.

Would be a fantastic 3 points....and yes I agree with everyone else , our defence worries me.

The international break come at a good time for us (Villa). This is probably one of the hardest games to come back to - your renewed energy, a new stadium, hope and motivation, and a Grealish that looks motivated and doesn't have the Guardiola shackles on. He'll be bang up for this. He was great at Villa and one thing you'd notice which wouldn't show up on stats anywhere, was that he was great at playing the pass before the assist (before the goal or goal chance). the one that unlocks everything making the assist easy. He's a top player and I still think you'll be surprised just how good he is (he's also quicker than you think, and good at the defensive work too), once he gets fully up to speed and into his rhythm. He's still Villa through and through which is why I can not dislike him, but I fully expect him to have a great game on saturday.

As for us, we haven't played badly we've just been flat. The Newcastle game was just a dull opening game for both sides. We were better than Brentford away but laboured to create. They were never really in the game and scored with a breakaway goal that had more than an air of fortune to it. They scored though and that is the only important thing.

As for Palace, we have a shocking record against them under Glasner. At 1-0 down (their first attack and get a pen) we were battering them second half and it looked like a goal was coming any second. And it did. A Guehi worldie from again their first attack - and then heads went down and we didn't recover.

Its an important game for us. Kamara is out and Onana was also missing through injury v Palace. Tielemans has started in the number 10 role which hasn't suited us so I'd expect him to play deeper as he did last season to give us more drive. We aren't as bad as the results have suggested and will click at some point, but given what I said earlier away v Everton isn't the ideal game to come back to. A defeat here and things will look worse than they are, but can add pressure to players not used to it, which can set the tone for the season. I don't want to lose, but just now I'd just take a goal! not a (90+3) type consolation mind you. But even then...
