I have got well into the athletics in the last few years, watching all the diamond league.

Mondo in the pole vault is the man, but Keely Hodgkinson is on another level in the woman's 800m

She's the one to beat. However, Athing Mu has had her number in big championships and she's probably fortunate not to have faced her in the Olympics and now the World's.

Young Jamaican lad recently ran a very fast 100 metres …. Something Thompson maybe ????? He ran around 9.75 but the wind speed was 2.0mph so not a legal time. Not sure if he’s been selected to compete though. The days of Cram, Coe , ovette, Mckean were great times though. Used to watch athletics religiously as a teenager with my mum, watch it whenever I’m able to these days but not up to date with who’s the best at their discipline these days.

Ovett was a sporting hero of mine, and still is. Could never take to Coe for some reason despite his brilliance. His later emergence as a Tory boy explained it.

I think it was Curtis Robb who was emerging then I think he decided his medical career was more important.

Same here. Ovett was working class and went to a Polytechnic rather than university and used to wear a Soviet Union vest to wind the toffs and BBC up.
