I’m from Newmarket, my best mate’s dad is a trainer. One of my other best mate’s dad was head lad for Michael Stout and Clive Britain. The industry itself is a bullying culture and always has been, I’ve seen and heard about pretty much everything that yards/trainers/owners get up to. I grew up thinking a horse called “a short head” was the greatest racehorse of all time with the amount of times it ended up winning.
Sweet, beautiful, braindead herd animals being hit by a little nobhead sat on top. Jockeys getting their daily calorie intact from alcohol to keep the weight off. Yards absolutely rife with ketamine, rohypnol and cocaine. Owners demanding trainers and jockeys to pull horses up in certain races to get better starting odds in the next. Trainers and jockeys driving about pished. Tweed, flat caps and salmon trouser combos.
What a sport. Good luck though, I’m sure that form table and the ground is all the information you need to win lots of money…
