The Citreon airbag debacle

All citroen/peugeot/fiat cars are terrible. I've just got a third recall on my 308. This time the rear seat belts points are faulty, you know just the ones the kids use. They've known about it for ages, but as usual tried to avoid the cost of a recall, and now say the car shouldn't be used until fixed. This on top of the timing belt and compression incompetence. So much stress, money and time wasted on it. And they pay to suppress information on these issues on the Internet. Will never buy one of their cars again.

Update … my daughter’s car is still off the road, earliest date they’ve given us for repairs is November…. Only plus side for her is that they’ve supplied her with a brand new Ford Kuga ST line that she’s loving cruising around in.

I have a DS3 and locally I was given a date in September but was also offered an alternative if I was prepared to travel, so I had it done in Stockport a couple of weeks later.

They rang up last week from a Peugeot garage, apparently they are stepping in to help with the replacements. They offered to fix my daughters car this week but, and I know this sounds picky, they only had the standard Citroen badge to put back on the steering wheel, my daughters car is what’s known as A Chrome edition and it has a chrome DS badge on the steering wheel so she refused their offer and said she’d be prepared to wait. I completely agree with her to be honest.

Add Renault to that list too.

Everything is cheap, particularly the electrics, which is why they`re so prone to electrical stuff becoming faulty.

One of the lads who fixes my cars, showed me a Renault wiring loom, compared to a BMW loom.

The core in beemer loom was twice as thick as the Renault.

I had a 307 a few years ago, terrible car. On the other hand my mrs has owned her Fiat 500 for almost 4 years now and she loves it, never had an issue with it.

Totally agree. I had an Audi A3 in 2004 or so. Headlight bulb went and the manual says take to dealer. £350 as the bumper and headlight fitting needs to be removed. Complete joke. I did it myself in the end.

It should be the LAW that things like headlight bulbs etc are easy enough to be changed yourself!

If you watched Wheeler Dealers from Edd China to Ant Antstead you will have seen the same issue (and cursing by the mechanic) on a number of cars over the years. Similar thing on more modern cars on models that require whole units being replaced as individual parts are not made available. (Headlamps, electric mirrors etc spring to mind).

Once they go off your car is a write off on most cars as the crack the dashboard - damaging electrics etc up even smash your windscreen - My son wrote a cracking car off when a person just tapped him head on - scary stuff ..... I tried everywhere to get new ones fitted - as they ae linked to the ECU - no one wanted to know - Had to claim on the insurance - Car is back on the road sold at auction with a grade - a cracking car too - doh -

Because of the world wide parts issue exacerbated by covid, chinese sabre rattling over Taiwan, precious metal scarcity, and tech advancements and supply chain logistic problems, have seen an increase in insurance companies keen to write vehicles off, because the time and costs righting a vehicle are that large now it's more efficient to scrap them for parts and start over. It's been a nightmare for some unfortunate drivers I know, and the oncoming torrent of car related ppi* has a tale to tell also.
