F1 2025 (and other motorsports)

Agree with @longers that is was stupid strategy from McLaren but once they’d decided to do that I think it was the right call for Oscar to give the place back. They’re fighting each other but it’s also a team game. Lando has done it for Oscar before and it will almost certainly happen again at some point.

Anyway, absolute incredible drive by Max. Kind of came from nowhere after the practice runs and then he smashed qualifying and the race.

Petulant little child

Not seeing it myself and it's a confusing stance given you like Verstappen (correct me if im wrong) who has behaved like a petulant child at a far higher rate than Norris ever has.

with a billionaire arl fella

His dad is a millionaire not a billionaire. Verstappens dad is also a millionaire. A sizeable percentage of most of the grid's dads are millionaires.

who can’t stand that he’s getting whipped by a kid

Who is getting whipped by a kid ? Norris is 25, Piastri is 24 !

I've not seen any comments from Norris's dad to suggest he's upset at Norris getting beaten ? You regularly see all kinds of mad comments from Jos though.

Just feels like all the reasons you dislike him also apply to the driver who you do like ?!?

Max spot on there: "What?! Just because he had a slow stop?!"

Piastri should have told them to do one.

Imagine that happens in the final race and Lando is 2 points ahead and is told to give the place back to Oscar.
If it’s the final race Lando pits first and doesn’t try to help Oscar with Leclerc

When things don’t go his way he’s like a petulant child. It’s clear he’s the favoured driver at McL, and not really justified based on this seasons performances
I mean Oscar asked for the most ridiculous swap around ever because he disagreed with a penalty he got a month or two back, but that’s fine I suppose.

They only did it because Norris agreed to let Piastri pit first to cover Leclerc, if he had pitted first and they bungled the stop they wouldn't have done the switch.

Incredibly dumb from McLaren, creating needless drama. Pit them so late for no reason, all whilst Piastri was closing on Norris by a second a lap, then with Piastri only 3 seconds behind they let Piastri pit first to cover Leclerc. Even without the messed up pit stop Norris would have only come out maybe 5-7 tenths ahead of Piastri. Just mind bogglingly poor strategy, which they weren't even forced into, they just chose to do it under no pressure whatsoever lol.
The regulations don’t allow a race to be completed on one set of tyres I believe.

Eh ? When things don't go his way he's the most self-critical driver on the grid, to the point where other drivers have told him to stop being so harsh on himself. He had a DNF last race, did you hear him screaming on the radio ? No, he took it very well, celebrated with the team for Oscars win and was generally very sound about it all. He's never moaned about the cars performance at any point other than giving the usual feedback over the radio you would expect.

Where are these examples of petulance? especially relative to other drivers.

Yes, they have to use two compounds. The point is they should have just pitted for hards like everyone else and had a routine finish but they decided to stay out as long as possible in the hope of a safety car (which would have put them in a great position to win) and ended up with this mess of a situation. It didn't matter in the end but they put way more pressure on themselves than necessary.

Thats a good point, had forgotten about that. Not that i blame Piastri for it, anything is worth a try :p

The way he so often comes across, fair enough if others don’t see it, but I just don’t like him, my reasons, my opinion. Each to their own

The Landoban at full strength here

That's been and gone now.

The history books will show Piastri was told to move aside for Norris to finish ahead of him.

He must now demand the same happens again under similar circumstances.

If he loses by <3 points this season he might never get another shot at the Championship with the new regulations and additional teams joining the sport.

I do wonder how many other champions would have done what Piastri did.

Verstappen wouldn't, Schumacher wouldn't, Hamilton maybe but in a way he could attack straight away.

Think it was a missed opportunity for Piastri to pile on Norris who I don't think is the toughest mentally and would have crumbled after 2 bas weekends.

Lando has moved aside for him before. I know you’re a massive Oscar fan but you have to have some balance.
