It's possible for players to be proficient in more than one position. If a player plays nearly half a season at right back and does well and plays for Ireland at right back I think it's pretty reasonable to say right back is one of the positions he can play. Was Maldini not a left back because he could also play centre back? Or maybe he actually wasn't a centre back at all.
I can only imagine your views on preferred pro-nouns.
If Dan Burn can play left back anything is possible.

Nobody saying he can’t play 2 positions, he can clearly play in both. But he’s clearly a natural center back, with some limitations playing right back (going forward, holding width, putting in crosses. He’s a natural center back who can competently cover right back, still can’t understand that being debated.It's possible for players to be proficient in more than one position. He put two lovely crosses into the box in the second half within a couple of minutes of each other, both were when the ball came to him, he had a touch and floated a perfect ball into the danger area, where no Irish player made a move into. Its a different story when he crosses while on the move which is what a proper RB would bring to the table. He can fill in at RB, but only as cover.

He does not have a playmaker with him on the right side (like Grealy) which does not help. I think he could be effective if we are playing for him to be effective which we aren't. He is mainly there to defend and make the odd cross and overload in certain situations. Definitely need an actual right back and hopefully we can bring back the Jakey Branners partnership when all are healthy.
That’s it. He is too good not to be on the field and Moyes has him plugging a gap. Him and Branthwaite are the future of course.
