I can remember going to Anfield to watch a final of a last year of school boys cup final - it may have been Huyton boys team - one player stood out that night - Peter Reid they won the trophy - little did I know - he would ever play for us as a world class midfielder in the 1980s ....
Evidently even as a red he turned both clubs down in his youth & chose Bolton as he wanted to play regular football - Gordon Lee put a massive bid in for him but he failed his medical in the late 1970s - HK paid a far less reduced price for him - a true legend & a blue now
Reading his autobiography Royston Vernon which I helped to donate to print - what a read it really was seeing him only as a six year old - they joke about his cigarette smoking from the age of 11 years old which they stated he could have become a world class player in the Dennis Law mold - his pace over a short distance was incredible - imagine if maybe without the smoking his energy levels could have been much higher?
