Loved the stadium when i went last week. Amazing experience but come on guys, £7 for a sausage roll is seriously taking the wee wee. I can get a boneless banquet and a pint delivered to my table by a fit bird for a tenner in the spoons near me.

True. But you can gatekeep who qualifies as a great.

Duncan at his best was a force of nature. His best was about three times a season.

Our 90s were so dreadfully bad that even I am prepared to accept Duncan was a highlight, even with his record.

But that’s still contextual.

We all have our own classification of who qualifies as the greatest players we’ve known and loved.

I take your point that in the long, proud history of Everton FC, Duncan Ferguson wouldn’t be anywhere near the all-time first 11. I happen to think his legend is bigger than the reality also, for what it’s worth.

I also take the point I think @Eggs is making that it’s a shame that fans who idolised Dunc didn’t have someone more successful (or better) to idolise.

But people do idolise him - and I think that deserves, if not agreement, then at least acceptance that they are entitled to think like that.
