A club needs your help

I wasnt sure whether this goes in Ale House or world football, but I figure its about a football club, albeit amateur.

The social club of the team that I played my first open age game for are in trouble. Covid got to them and the clubhouse never reopened. The owners then sold the land to Belway homes (probably their intention for a while). Anyway, Belways planning, which included sports facilities and a new club house was turned down by the council due to their plans being demolition of the existing buildings and provision of smaller ones, meaning the land is now completely unused with a building being regularly vandalised.

A community interest company (CIC) has been set up and their intention is to raise money to fund a refurb, which they know they can get.

They have a meeting next week with the council to try and force Belways hand to release the land to the CIC to begin. If Belway still own the land in 12 months time it will be 5 years since the land has been used for sports and recreation, meaning that sports England are no longer required to be on the Planning permission and it will essentially just be a housing estate.

This isn't just football, its rugby and cricket as well.

Anyway, not asking for donations, just a simple signature to try and get the numbers over 1000 on the petition in order to try and prove a strength of feeling. I'm sure a lot on here are from Widnes or surrounding areas, you may well know of the ground. If you can sign and share, that would be amazing.

This is the Change.org site.

And you can follow any progress and/or see more detail on the facebook page.

If you are kind enough to sign the petition, please remember to validate your email or it won't count

Mods, if this isnt the right place, please feel free to move it.

Signed and forwarded to everyone I know and the Widnes crew in work. Our spark said he used to play footy there as a kid and that he'll contact them privately to see if there's any more he can do.

Good luck 👍 🤞
