Specsavers older drivers be warned .... Beware .....

Just been there - Just found out they have won the contract with the DVLA to any older drivers to get them off the road - they are on a retainer to get drivers banned -

I passed - but he asked me to come back next year ?

My son looked at my prescriptions in my folder as he was ordering glasses for my good lady from Glasses Direct as they are at least 50% cheaper than any hight street optician -

I stated I am ok as Specsavers optician had put no new glasses needed ...

As my son was adding my prescription details - he stated what a clown this optician really was my right eye had deteriorated by full two points so he immediately helped me to pick new frames & put my prescription in as I wear Varifocals - I did ask the optician I seen for my pupil distance - refused - but little did he know Glasses direct have a new App - to help you to get the pupil distance ... for your eyes -

I picked an expensive frame transitional varifocal lenses - free postage & they came brilliant I can see far better in both eyes now as the left eye had some deterioration too - thinking back he did ask me how much I drive - never been asked that before - first time at Specsavers = never again -

I even telephoned them up to se if he had made a bad error - No was the answer -

Please google it - Only optician on a contract with the DVLA !

….as an old fella with 5 big eye ops in the last 3 years, I think it’s a good thing.

Thanks to a brilliant surgeon, my eyesight is now actually as good as it’s been since I was a teenager but generally your sight worsens as you get older.

I get a new car every couple of years but I’m only doing 2k miles per year at the most as we tend to walk everywhere. Not driving anywhere near what I was before I retired 10 years ago so nowhere near as confident behind the wheel. The more testing they do on us old folk the better.

Sadly, folk are a loss less courteous and more ‘angry’ on the road these days. The worst drivers are the ones who think they’re good drivers.

Thanks for making the roads that little bit more dangerous Joey
Agism that mate - I have a full Motorbike license - past a transit van test when I was at work - & drove Tractors - plus could reverse a trailer into a parking bay - That is an art as - you use your steering wheel in the opposite direction to reverse a trailer - don't teach your grandmother to suck eggs ... :D
