2025/26 Adam Aznou

We had Lescott, Yobo and Jags who all deserved to be in the team so Lescott got moved to left back. He also scored a load of goals that season. The pace, strength and physically of Lescott, Yobo and Jags in a back 4 is pretty good like. No fears of playing a high line with those lads. That summer we signed Piennar on loan, Jags, Baines and Yak.
In other words we played a centre half at full back when we had a really good full back we'd paid a lot of money for. I really thought Baines would leave because Moyes wouldn't play him, what a disaster that would have been. Luckily he's not that kind of bloke.

So many times fans have said ‘why can’t we buy so and so before they get the big move and develop here’ we then sign players that have huge potential at a young age for low fees and people still moan that they aren’t good enough.

This boy is extremely young and coming into what is often called the toughest league in the world, if you can’t give time to a player like this then I’d suggest you’d be better off following another sport

Or another way to look at it is we didn’t change a winning team and move our highest performing player allowing us to introduce a young and introverted baller into the team gradually who then became one of the premier left backs in the world. But you do you.

Moyes' body language when asked about Aznou's absence from contention was shifty to say the least.

Everyone was surprised (and suspicious) about his situation.

….there’s absolutely no need to be underhand about this. Moyes ‘subbed the sub’ with Aznou in a friendly, that would likely be for an injury which was confirmed days later.

Moyes might well be of a view that the lad isn’t ready to play (Roma did get in behind him for their goal) and it seems we were after Chilwell on loan but I can’t see why we’d be cloak and dagger making up an injury to cover something else.

So as to save face or those who brought him in.

It was all so vague abut his 'injury'.

It's speculation on my part but I'd be surprised if it were an injury. There was no indication whatsoever. Moyes just wanted to put a more senior player in, as he's more comfortable with them.

….nah, the lad’s been here two minutes so it’s not a question of ‘saving face’. It’ll be a while before anybody can judge this signing, even Moyes but the lad has a Barcelona/Bayern pedigree so I imagine at the very least that he can play a bit (apparently impressed during the U21 game on Tuesday night).

I’m sure your seeing something that just isn’t there.

Oh look, Dave has a new player to hate.

He's trying to get over the low bar of unseating Mykolenko. There should be no need for a bedding in period.

The manager favours Mykolenko because he's older and more experienced. In the past he's played both attacking FBs so it's not ideological to play them for him. It's just that he only ever trusted both Baines and Coleman until they got some years into them at Everton.

He distrusts newly bought or young talent.

….maybe, I’ve seen others mention similar but not convinced myself. Apparently slow to play Baines but I’d counter that with maybe he handled him perfectly given the games he subsequently played.

I think all players have to prove they’re ready, I’d imagine Moyes is hoping Aznou can do that sooner than later.

There’s a few posters like you who simply don’t like Moyes, maybe he is a bit more risk-averse and safe but he’s been around for a long time being that way. Young players will come through under him, I have no doubt about that.

I'm sick of him. He's held Everton back. People like to kid themselves he's been a major success for us when he hasn't.

Seeing him waltz into the press conferences with his sub-Ancelotti coffee cup sipping routine is hysterical when all he's won is the lowest ranking euro trophy there is in his 30 year career as a manager.
