Today’s Football 25/26 Season

*Think the periodic table for Lead. The dream of a hollywood renaissance probably was quite appealing, but where there is a scheme, there is invariably a schemer. See covid, vip access lanes.
"You've lost me there, sorry (not difficult)... all I'm getting is Pb... the more I try and think the further away I get...

9pm BBC2 tomorrow. New Storyville documentary;

Football's Financial Shame: The Story of the V11
Unveiling a hidden scandal from inside the Premier League. Delving into the personal consequences of this financial devastation.

Who are The V11?

  • A group of former Premier League players who were exploited by their financial advisors.
  • The group includes players who have been Premier League champions, Champions League winners, and England internationals, playing for famous clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal.
  • Examples of players involved are Danny Murphy and Brian Deane.
What is the Scandal?
  • The players were advised to enter into investments that resulted in financial losses.

  • They are now facing significant tax liabilities on those advised investments, a situation that has caused considerable personal struggle.

  • The situation highlights a "dark side to the game" and a systemic culture of financial grooming and abuse at the highest levels of professional football, according to the Fremantle website.
How was it Revealed?

  • The scandal was exposed in the 2025 BBC documentary "Football's Financial Shame: The Story of the V11" and is featured in the Fremantle documentary "The V-11".
  • These documentaries provide personal testimonies and investigative evidence, detailing the players' search for justice and the extensive financial abuse they suffered.
Very similar to what happened with Rio funding Movies getting made and losing a pile of cash isn't it?

Edit: just catching up now and it looks like this is the exact same scheme being discussed in the documentary?

The players were advised to enter into investments that resulted in financial losses.

This bit seems par for the course with private investing. I've not watched the documentary so I don't know the specifics here.

Unless they've got significant evidence they were actively frauded is this not just an example of an investment not working out? All investments come with risk.

At the end of the day it's a risk for anyone with money and little financial awareness if you put your trust in an "expert".

The alleged forgery of signatures by the 'experts' to open bank accounts and make investments (which those who made losses knew nothing about) was a key part of the documentary as well as Brown introducing a tax incentive scheme for the film industry (which the 'experts' invested in heavily) and then Brown ran for the hills when he realised nobody was making films, just drawing the tax incentive so he left it with them.

Why the law won't be changed; Have your uncle take control of your finances, run a load of schemes leaving you (and others) financially liable, he runs off with the money to a non extradition country, you cry foul, taxman writes off the liability, the money is gone, no harm to you and uncle Mike is a millionaire sat in the sun. Rinse, repeat. Bankrupt the country in under a week.

……he is always quick to noisily jump on a passing bandwagon?
yeah, kinda like some shock jock howard stern type, only with the smug self satisfied 'I've worked for years in football, so bow down to me' attitude. he's on talksport for crying out loud, with such luminaries as troy deeney and robbie savage.

Anyway, I wonder if the pfa will step in and ban all financial experts and used car salesmen from training grounds and such.
