Everton Youth Teams Thread

The one thing that strikes me about Clarke is how much he’s shot up in the last year, he looked like a typical 16 year old winger when he joined us , now he looks 6 foot plus and I wonder if at times he’s adjusting to his body. I think he’s doing fine at 17, been with the first team , a regular at u21 and at the same stage Gordon was being dropped from the u21s by Unsworth. There’s definitely something there, the difference will likely be his own attitude to improving himself, working hard etc …….and of course if we as a club become serious about giving him a development pathway.

If he develops steadily but is still with the U21's when he's say 19 I think we've messed up.

….yep, super talented need to be breaking in and around the first team.

Saying that, the dynamic of the club is changing in respect of purchasing power. In recent times I’ve generally thought it a negative sign when we sent a talented youngster on loan because our squad is so poor. Now as Armstrong impresses, we have the purchasing power to bring in Rohl.

It might be increasingly difficult to break through but I still believe the super talented find a way.

That’s great exposure for him and for others to see . In reality though it’s to fill in for those on international duty and others playing in an u21 game . At the moment in overall positions I’d have 4or 5 of our u15/16 ahead of him potential wise Still great for him though .
Goes to show how all the aggregators will twist the narrative and pump up the hype on players

I'm not sure it's malicious though, just ignorant.

It's why I value this thread so highly. Cuts through the nonsense.
It's probably not malicious but there's definitely a conscious choice to anoint young players as the next big thing etc. As that drives clicks and interactions. Not unique to aggregators online though, I remember granada reports having a Liverpool U6 on calling him the next messi.

I think that’s my worry , their research is so thin , the Echo will be up with “ training with the first team at 16” , which will continue into random match commentaries. A bit like last night with the Donny commentator on Clarke , played for Wimbledon at 15 etc and when he ran out of material the universal “ He’s highly thought of at Finch Farm”.

probably just to help them add several million on to his value when they sell him on
