2025/26 Beto

Just one of the most likeable blokes we’ve had play for us in ages.
I just don't get how anyone can dislike him.

He's not the most polished, but he does some excellent things, always tries hard, is fast and strong and a really good finishers. We've had worse players who couldn't score goals. People need to get behind the lad. I always feel much more comfortable with him up top than I ever did with Calvert-Lewin. Hasn't he got something like 10 goals in 24 games under Moyes??

I liked DCL as well but the myth around their respective hold up plays is a bit ridiculous. DCL’s hold up play was nowhere near as good as people make out and Beto’s is nowhere near as bad. I actually think their hold up play is of a similar quality with their feet and maybe DCL had the edge bringing a high ball down. The amount of times though I’d see the ball passed forward to Calvert Lewin and his first touch would be backwards back over the halfway line followed by a massive effort just to poke the ball back to the bloke who had passed it to him, then everyone starts clapping his great hold up play?

Dom was a confidence striker that needed service to be effective. Nothing wrong with that and not his fault things turned out the way they did, but Beto imo works better in isolation if you play to his strengths. His holdup play was indeed overstated. I think he was a good outlet as he would run the wings and win the ball aerially but in terms of creation? Not very good. In fact Barry has done more than both in just a couple of games in that regard.

Given we now have a set of attacking players whose main feature is their ability to retain possession and run with the ball, that should relieve the pressure on the forward to trap hoof balls. I think the signing of dibling and grealish is really to help build a style that will suit forwards of betos kind. They’re ability on the ball really does compensate for Beto and any other forwards lack of hold up play

Thanks for posting, what a great attitude he has in some ways you can forgive some of his short comings because you know he is trying so hard and has a great relationship with the fans compare his attitude to Maupay
He's essentially admitting he's not the greatest but appreciates the support and will always try his hardest.
You can't ask for much more.
