It is gonna be a long Prem season with the cups, too. Plenty of time for this lad and the other new young ones to settle in. They will get games if9 good enough and may get games earler when injuries and suspensions happen.

Agreed. I think we'll see him in December when the games come thick and fast.

That was Moyes being over cautious, Baines should have been in the team way earlier.

To be fair Lescott was brilliant at first at left back also added height at the back, that's the real reason Baines found it hard to break in. Think Lescott was found out in a European game, forget who but after Baines had a few games, there was only one left back at Everton.

A moody arrogant surly body
He looked frustrated that we were repeatedly giving the ball away when he was calling for a pass in the final third.

Tbf he's spent his whole career at Barcelona and then Bayern, he's most likely used to being surrounded by a bit better than what was a depleted Everton u21 side due to internationals.

This guy looked to me as if he is at least a year from being a starter and that is optimistic.

Jake will fillet him in training.

Very skillful and very light, not IMO an option Moyes is going to risk teaching to swim down the deep end.

There could be a left winger in him faster than a left full back.

The being light bit negates the just back from injury / disrupted pre season excuses.

Gym and bucket of creatine for 12 months. Looked quick but not elite pace.

Wand of a left foot, the cross that the right full put over in the second half was a peach but he was nowhere near standout like Clarke / Beaumont Clark.

Hope Im wrong.
To me he looked fast, good touch and can see the quality in some of his dribbling and crossing.

Agreed he was not really getting stuck into tackles or battling much physically, though I did think there was a chance that was an instruction given to him to avoid risk of further injury.

In hindsight yes but Lescott was also playing out of his skin at left back. I don’t think anyone would have predicted how good Baines would become for us. Imagine if we had him now linking up with Grealish, NDiaye and KDB. 💦

We paid £6 million for him, and anyone who saw him at Wigan could tell he was a good player, I was mystified when Moyes didn't play him!

Dalmat against Liege, think Lescott has PTSD whenever anyone suggested he ever play left back again after that

We had Lescott, Yobo and Jags who all deserved to be in the team so Lescott got moved to left back. He also scored a load of goals that season. The pace, strength and physically of Lescott, Yobo and Jags in a back 4 is pretty good like. No fears of playing a high line with those lads. That summer we signed Piennar on loan, Jags, Baines and Yak.
