Today’s Football 25/26 Season

Pele got done over similar, had to unretire.
I get the feeling Lee Hendrie might have been stung by these vipers.
That a crime has been noted but the evidence threshold can't be reached means this is significant organised white collar crime.

Keith Gillespie at least had the thrill of throwing his money at the bookies.

Organised fraud, long term, with staff on the take, and landed them in the hands of Hmrc, so many parallels with green and bhs. Know the law, operate with a smile, take people for a ride, walk of with their riches.

Utter scum.

As Murphy is still in the public eye so to speak I take my hat off to him for appearing in this and it's admirable the way he speaks so honestly about himself, what this has 'done' to him (not financially) - same goes for all the others, too.

They could all just easily 'have had a whinge' about what's happened to them but I hope it all works out in their favour, however that might be (and for others who are perhaps too 'ashamed' to appear).

(Brian Deane, scored the 1st goal in the PL)

Edit: It's boiled my piss a bit, to be honest...

It's a shame big-ears-mrc can't be bothered looking into the covid ppe vip lane eh, and those that facilitated such.

roundabouts and hotels though...

I'm visiting home right now.
Was at Fortuna Düsseldorf on Saturday since my mate is from Düsseldorf. Yesterday we were at the home opener for my German club, 1. FC Köln. Place was rocking, 4:1 win with absolute premium goals. 2 games, six points in the first two after promotion.View attachment 323786View attachment 323787View attachment 323788
Need to get there at some point in my life. I am always in the Cologne area at the wrong time of year. Was near there last summer visiting some family. I have seen Bundesliga games at Gladbach and Stuttgart but not yet Cologne. There is a small chance I am back in Germany end of next year so might have to see if going is possible but knowing my luck it will be the mid season break. Coming over from Australia can be hard to get the timing right.

If you come here write me a DM. It will be next to impossible to get tickets as a non-member if you don't want to monitor the club's re-sale market around the clock 😁

Watched it last night.

It was shocking tbh and I know we only got an abridged version of the whole thing, but I’d have thought that the forging of signatures would’ve been enough alone to show clear criminal intent.

However quite the “ experts “ in things like handwriting never say that it’s 100% a forgery, just that there’s a very high probability, which would mean other supporting evidence would be required to nail them.

Not sure if this was the case here ?

Either way, you’re heart went out to them.

Rod Wallace and Sean Davies looked like wrecks.

If I was their families, I’d be keeping a very close eye on them ☹️

Sorry, i only caught the very end of it (10 mins or so) bur it sounded to me as thoiugh they all made heavy losses. If that was the case, then why did the tax man want anything? - ie; no profits made

That`s what I couldn`t get my head around.

My understanding of it was that the tax avoidance / investment scheme they all signed up to ( investing in the British film industry ) was later declared illegal by HMRC and that even though they`d lost all their money, they still had to pay retrospective tax on every penny that they had invested and that still remains the case pending the appeals.

If that's true then it's very harsh

I don`t think it was just footy players that have been caught up in this too, from what I`ve read it was seen as a popular and widespread investment vehicle at the time and lots of high earners got burnt by it.
The details were skirted over, the small explanation I saw went like this iirc, if player x put up £100k, the investment firm could raise a further £900k from banks and similar, equating to £1m, the film scheme allowed for a 40% tax relief on this investment (on films budgeted up to £15m maximum) so for the initial £100k the investment was effectively buying back £400k. I believe part of the problem was the films never got made, so with nothing produced the scheme was called in and the tax relief payout needed paying back. (going back in my memory to recall others affected, I believe media gangster and cockney wiseguy dave courtney got caught out on something like this re film investing).
Anyway, if player x had simply been given the £400k and it was sat in the bank that'd have been great... "here you go taxman, that put's it right, no need for incredibly aggressive interest rates, it's a fair cop, we're square". Because these schemes had seen an initial return, there was a sum to play with, you could have your money or simply sign here and we'll build a complex of luxury apartments (that never got built) on the west coast of Florida. One risky scam full of lies and liability got rolled into the next one, and the firm kept taking their fee on every transaction.
On paper it looked great, and following their (investment firm) accounts the players never lost, because they're dirty backstabbing liars. When these kinds of things happen to lord and lady fullerton the tax man steps in on their behalf, but a bunch of working class lads with more money than sense can get in the bin with interest.
howard wilkinson it turns out is a dirt ball, as head of the league managers association had shares in the investment firm proper, and used his position with other managers and some players to push this firm to incredibly wealthy (not highly educated nor financially savvy) lads in their 20's on false promises and make believe retirements.
The thing is now, they're trying to get the law changed so the liabilities they've signed* up to can be written off. The tax man isn't going to budge, he wants his money and how.

Didn't have to look far.

Gordon Brown introduced the tax relief for the film industry when he was was Chancellor because he wanted to increase investment in the British film industry but did nothing to promote it so the films actually never got made. Once HMRC informed the Government what was actually happening with this hare-brained scheme they pulled it leaving the tax liability with the 'investor'.

(I'm sure someone on here also said Brown cost/lost him (and thousands of others) more than substantial amounts of money over something ridiculous he introduced on private pension schemes.)

Tory, Labour or whoever, the majority of them aren't going to have a very peaceful final look when their time comes.

Think the periodic table for Lead. The dream of a hollywood renaissance probably was quite appealing, but where there is a scheme, there is invariably a schemer. See covid, vip access lanes.
