NFL 2025 Season

Think I've always been put off just because of the Superbowl and how god damn long it is.
Funnily enough, whilst I love the NFL, and follow the season avidly, I find the Super Bowl the least interesting of all the games. They have this NFC/ AFC split and I usually end my season after the Championship games, which decide the AFC/NFC champs.

Super Bowl always feels like a glorified friendly to me ( I know 😁) and very often don’t even watch it.

If you get into ( the season) it it really is the best.

Yep I completely agree with this. The two weeks off, all the nonsense leading up, the ridiculous 45 minute halftime and just the general feel of it being a show and not a game all turn me off ever being truly excited for it.

Parsons traded to the Packers is 🤯

What a coup for them. With a pass rusher of his quality you'd be expecting them to compete for the NFC title this season. They've just gotta pray now that the guy stays healthy and that his back issues aren't more of a problem than first thought.

Don't really understand why Jerry Jones didn't just pay the fella.. 🤷‍♂️
Because he’s Jerry Jones.

There is a set rotation to most of the NFL schedule. Teams across conferences play each other once every four years at a minimum. The Jets and Giants played in 2023 and will play again in 2027.

Here’s how it works:

- You play everyone in your own division home and away (6 games)
- You play one game against every team in another division of your own conference, rotating from year to year (4 games)
- You play the other two teams in your conference that finished in the same position as you the previous year - that is if you finished 1st in your division, you play the two other teams that finished 1st (2 games)
- You play one game against every team in another division of the opposite conference, rotating from year to year (4 games)

Then a few years ago the NFL added a 17th game. There you play another team in the other conference that finished in the same position as you the previous year. The divisions rotate from year to year, and the conferences take turns being the home team for these games.
And it has to be like some form of this, b/c the only other real alternative is to play 31 games against everyone else like in European football. But these guys can't physically play 31 games in a season. Their bodies literally couldn't handle that.

So with a realistic season of 17 games, you have to divide up teams in some meaningful fashion, and the division structure and conference structure does that

I have my own story for following the Eagles
How did it happen? I had Joe Montanas Sports Talk Football on the Megadrive in the early 90s, my dad spent a lot of time in Canada with the army so got in to it then, he always went Green Bay (sorry @Moomin) and got me in to it, I beat him once and it was when I was the Philadelphia Eagles and from there blossomed a love.

First time I ever went to the 'states was back in 2005. En route to Florida with the family, we had to land in Philly and transfer to Orlando.. but because of adverse weather conditions (6 inches of snow! 💀 baring in mind that this was late January) we were grounded for the next 12-ish hours.

My Dad decided to try and call up a hotel near the airport for us the hunker down for the evening and come back to the airport in the morning - but in the meantime, the airport itself was full of Philly fans wanting to travel to Florida themselves for the Superbowl against the Patriots. Ended up chatting to and becoming friendly with a group of them, having never been exposed to NFL fans before (even though I obviously knew about it all beforehand) and I promised them that I'd root for the Eagles in the game. The cab driver on the way to the hotel was also a Philly local who asked us about Liverpool for the entire trip. In the short time we were there - I just got a really nice vibe about the people and they were technically my first proper introduction to America.

The following week in our villa in Kissimmee, I sat down and watched the Superbowl only having a passing knowledge of the rules of the game. Pats beat the Eagles 24-21 - but I became an Eagles fan (and NFL follower) from that point. I've dipped in and out of the sport over the years, but I'd always tried to look out for how the Eagles were doing regardless (they'd never won a Superbowl at that point). With how easy it is to follow it all these days though my fondest for the sport has grown a lot again in more recent years.

That’s a great story mate, love that you got to mingle with Eagles fans. I’ve been the same myself, wasn’t easy to watch games so I’d watch the Channel 4 stuff when I could but it sort of dropped off unless you had Sky Sports.

In terms of New York - the teams there are the Giants and the Jets. They both have big followings, but I'd suggest the Giants is probably bigger.

Miami & New Orleans your only choices there really are the Dolphins and the Saints.

The Giants and the Dolphins are both historically 'big' franchises though the Saints have seen a little bit of their own success in the past as well. All four of them are up against it a bit to make the playoffs this season but, of course, that shouldn't necessarily sway which way you go anyway.

The Eagles, who are an NFC conference team, have been my team for about 20 years - but in terms of the AFC teams I have soft spots for both the Houston Texans and Tennassee Titans through family, so I like to see them do well also.

He has a 5th choice. The bills who are actually in New York.

The jets and giants aren't in New York.

Plus the Bills are ace

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

That's a real bummer...redzone was a haven for uninterrupted highlights...great entertainment particularly witching hour moments where Scott is jumping back and forth between closing moments of multiple games. I find it hard enough to watch a normal game because of the constant ad breaks...
