Confirmed Signing Merlin Rohl

I know some nerds on here say they watch every player on the planet but I know nothing about him. He looks like he has had a few injuries over last few years and has been coming on as a sub.

Is he any good?

Long story short, nobody knows, but the club definitely think so

His versatility could be huge for us, can see him covering a few positions.

If we get our set piece delivery sorted out he could be another asset as well.

A lot of the stats that top sides have access to now are far more advanced than that.

I read the book by the Liverpool data guy while I was sat round a pool this summer and while it was nauseating in parts (although I particularly liked the bit about Ian Ayre trying to buy Lukaku from us), it was eye opening about the sort of data they have access to. To the point that they now analyse a players nobody position as they receive a pass etc and have data for it.

And I think that would only include up to 2022 (?) - things at the top have gotten even more advanced since then.

Basically the entire reason the RS have had a decade as an elite team again is because they realised before anyone else in the prem that data and stats could and should be used at an extremely high level. Meanwhile we had Steve Walsh clicking 'sort by goals' on WhoScored.

Whenever I see Liverpool or Brighton linked with a player, I tend to think the player must have something about them. They're the data kings and they don't seem to get loads wrong.

Liverpool being linked with this lad for a year is encouraging.

Similarly I looked at Dewsbury-Hall a little differently when I became aware that Brighton have tried to sign him twice in the last 12 months or so
