Hard to evaluate?

This time yesterday you had decided how good he was and where he played.

Hahah my head fell off a bit because he basically hasn't shown consistently that he can do anything useful, and I wanted an upgrade at CM so bad. I did say that if he's good for us, that's a huge win for us because it means our recruitment can spot things other people can't. Because he is incredibly hard to evaluate! Just trying to figure out what it is that our guys might have spotted.

(Tbf I stand by there being better uses of our money that are less of a gamble...but hopefully I end up with egg on my face)

Saw a tweet yesterday that I can't find now which showed his heat map from last season.

Basically even though he was a number 10 for pretty much the entire season, he has a natural bias to the right hand side of the pitch.

Given KDH has a similar natural bias to the left side of the pitch, I suspect we are going to see much more of a 433 at times

That makes sense to me too in terms of his position. I do worry about our defensive solidity with a midfield of garner/KDH/rohl but tbh I should probably fret less about David Moyes of all people being able to set up a defensively solid team.

Gotta suspect those passing/carrying stats have it down to tactics as well, it might just be that he has been instructed to keep it ticking instead of trying to thread it, and obviously try to beat a man if that sort of thing is on.

Really excited to see how his qualities will complement the likes of Grealish, Dibling and Ndiaye. Can't wait for the international break to be over, in fact!

But you’ve never seen him play. I think if you have an opinion based solely on stats then you should disclose that when you talk about a player. People who care about stats will be interested but those who are less concerned won’t.

This is why stats can be so misleading. Maybe he is just attempting extremely difficult passes all of the time and not stat padding.

Looks to be an intelligent player, physical and a good athlete.
Could be converted to a 6 as well as being used as an 8.
Think he will be very good and effective.

From what he said in his interview and what i have read about him, he comes across as cross between Dewsbury Hall and Iberbunham, when he gets the ball he wants to drive forward with it, I don't think he is a 6 based on what has been said more like an 8.

That's why good stats can be a lot less misleading

He's not, that sort of thing is accounted for in more in-depth stats. But you're absolutely right - that's exactly why taking a stat like pass completion % without context can be super misleading! You don't know if it's because they're crap, or because they're attempting a lot of high risk, high reward passes.
