NUFC aka The Horse Punchers

They've spent 800m and honestly don't look any better than us.

I think the Isak debacle has shocked them. The squad probably expected to kick on with some top signings and smart sales but instead...Elanga in and Isak out.

Wind gone from their sails.

If they cant get firing and drop down a few places then Guimaraes and Tonali may want out next summer.

They hit the glass ceiling, but still have a very decent squad.

100% and it's the same glass ceiling that will prevent us from really challenging for titles in the future.

That glass ceiling can be smashed though.

If they'd sold Isak for £130mil then purchased 2 CFs with the money its arguable they'd be better as he gets a fair amount of injuries.

Also PSR wise they'd massively benefit.

Need to work smart on signings and sales with PSR. One huge sale every couple of seasons and a lot of luck with recruitment and you can smash the ceiling.

While others, the usual suspects don't have to sell anyone, unless they want to.

Their stadium plans have been somewhat muted according to a Newcastle fan I know, and he's been shocked how the club haven't utilised more sponsors.

I do have a feeling that PIF have realised it's not as easy as they thought, they're not going to get the rewards they desired, or Saudi league is a priority.

No one has come close to smashing that glass ceiling so it will require an unbelievable amount of sustained luck. Personally, I think it's bulletproof in the same way the SPL and La Liga have prevented more than a closed group of clubs from ever winning a title. I hope I'm wrong though.

If you sign a really good player and you progress him to top class, one of the top four will eventually just take him off you, it's that simple, it's all about money and which teams can spend it like there is no tommorow.

If (hopefully not) we sold Branthwaite next summer & replaced with 2 replica CBs.

Those CBs double in value and we then sell 1 the following summer. We use the funds fo then sign a centre back and a right back...etc etc

Its a slow process if you do it with 1 player and takes a bit of luck. But it can be done.

Agreed, and eventually Real Madrid will take them from any of the top 4. Such is the football food chain

In theory that's correct Zat, as long as you identify the right players, as Leicester and Southampton found out,
what happens when you dont.
Brentford are being ripped apart this year, it's their turn, manager too. Brighton are spending a fortune for their targets nowadays, where originally most of their targets were cheap, Mitoma for example £2m. They are now spending fortunes for that type of player and having to sell high. What stops them I think is regular European football, massive commercial deals and even low crowds sponsorships. The cards are all stacked and held by the sly 6 clubs who it seems have infinite money to spend and know their way around ffp / psr or their lawyers do.

What happens is you make a good buy in bringing in Stones and then undo your good work by signing Holgate.
