Just been over in Istanbul for 4 nights, lots of walking but a decent city. It gets a 6.5/10 from me.

About to fly to Cappadocia...

Istanbul is an excellent place to visit, and despite being huge very accessible. Prepare for a culture shock in Cappadocia, landscape is amazing and walking in the valleys superb. Have stayed in both Urgup and Goreme on my visits, the latter being more commercial. Fortunately the bus system is excellent (as it is all over Turkey) and in just a few days can cover most of the must see sights.

I've just arrived in Goreme. It's swelteringly hot but the ride from the airport to my hotel was very scenic. I'd never thought I'd ever be going through rural Türkiye, was awesome tbf

Wait until the morning when (hopefully) you will see, and hear, all the balloons above you. Awesome spectacle.

We’re lucky that we have an alarm tomorrow by way of the Fajr so should be up in time to see them. I’m going to book a classic car tour for either Tuesday and Wednesday, tomorrow we’re doing a mixed Red and Green tour :)

Just finishing a trip in Italy.

Bologna - it's a nice base to travel from but there is very little to see and do except eat Bolognese
Florence - an absolutely outstanding city. I highly recommend people visit. The Duomo is amazing
Pisa - click, click, leave. There's a bent tower in Bologna
San Marino - beautiful scenery from the towers and a nice day out, especially if you're a country collector like I am
Venice - it's a good day trip and getting lost in the alleyways is enjoyable but I wouldn't recommend staying for any period of time
Verona - a hidden gem. Great architecture and cafés galore. Lots to see

I assume that you will be in one of the big American cars they use for the car tours. The Red & Green tours are a must whilst there. Enjoy.

Yeah, my Missus has a nice dress prepared for it so I'll be very much in trouble if I don't arrange one. A blue car is my only request lol

Some sight to wake up to this morning!

Spending a few days in Amsterdam getting over jet lag before visiting family in Liverpool. First time I’ve been here on a Saturday night in 25 years and it was awful. Bars full of Barmy Army/lower league Brits organising singalongs etc. Saw a group of lads in RS tops last night, all of them from Essex.

Had a day out in Haarlem yesterday and it was such a nice contrast. Only 20 mins on the train but like stepping back in time. So peaceful and hardly any tourists, just Dutch families out in parks or eating/drinking in the town square. Bliss.

The swing on top of the building behind the train station is worth doing if you're not afraid of heights.

Lieden is pretty cool, tons of cafes on the canals (also no tourists) and just a 20 minute train ride, or Den Haag and Scheviningen beach are just over an hour away.

I have to say that I've fallen in love with Cappadocia. I won't come here again as I've done what I had wanted to do, but I'd thoroughly recommend it to anyone who hasn't already been if you have the opportunity to do so.

Next stop is Izmir tomorrow.
Not making it to Cappadoccia is the one regret I have from my trip to Turkey.

Izmir was pretty interesting—a highlight was going to a takeaway place that had kumpir. Basically a baked potato with loads of different toppings. Worth trying if you haven’t tried it yet

I find Amsterdam to be so tacky.

They moan about the English tourists but it’s very much catered towards them.

Enjoyed my trips there but I’d never go again.
