In danger of getting carried away?

There's a lot to be pleased about at the moment. The stadium, the new signings making a difference, some very nice football being played, and wins, glorious wins.

It's something I feel many of us has craved for some time - to feel good about Everton and thst we're on the up. Its lovely, genuinely great to have a feel good vibe.

But, and there's always a but, are we in danger of collectively getting carried away? We've been starved of the above for so long it's only right to indulge, but should we temper the enthusiasm slightly? Its still early days this season and there'll be bumps in the road.

We need to keep the positivity, but fall into the trap of setting ourselves up for a fall, with heads falling off over a setback imho.

Or am I just being a killjoy miserable so and so?
You're right - there are grounds for optimism. No pun intended. But it's three games, one of which was well lost and two of which were won when we might have ended up with draws had the opposition finished relatively simple chances. A very small sample size of three games does not a trend make. However, we have come out the right side of those matches, in general, and can be pleased we have.

But if we fail to address the right-back, defensive midfield, and striker positions by tomorrow night, I fully expect this optimism to dry up as the season continues. An injury or two will deplete this fragile squad. We need to strengthen as a matter of urgency or we will rue the failure to do so when the business end comes around.

Yesterday was the first time we properly outplayed a premier league team almost all game in ages and didn’t just win by having a very well drilled defence and nicking a goal

I think everyone here would take top 8 and a cup run and all of us would bite your hand off for a cup or even European qualification even in that third tier silly one whatever it’s called

The attacking side of things and not having 10 men behind the ball at all times....will ensure the occasional beating is gunna be handed to us. (possibly a hiding here and there aswell)
But as long as we're heading in the right direction, heads need not fall off. The balance has to be found.

But we can also look forward to giving out a few hidings this season I'm sure 👍

The defence that hit those previous records in the league has Branthwaite in it. The one with Keane is not 4th best and is prone to conceding goals. This is just a fact that a lot of people don’t seem to like but it’s true. We need Branthwaite back and fit for the majority of the season if we want to have a good run or we’ll be looking at having to score multiple goals every game to keep winning.

We need to get Branthwaite back, get Barry firing, and also start to get goals from set pieces, and have a clean run of injuries, then who knows what we could do.
My post is literally about us playing with a make do defence and that I’m not actually worried as we had a great defence last season.

Do people only read random words in a post and then make up what it says?

I'm just enjoying, seeing an Everton side attacking and scoring goals. I really think this season top half finish and keep playing exciting to watch football. See where we are in the run in, maybe Europe next season(conference).

We’ll go through a tough spell at some point in the season and we will lose games. I’m hoping we can sneak into a conference league position

I think we have to remember that since Moyes returned we have been top 6 form and thats without Barry, Grealish, KDH and Dibling. We need some reinforcements as our squad is shy of numbers and those will hopefully come. We can give anyone a game for sure, but this is rhe Premier League and we can equally lose to anyone too

I did read it. I’m not worried if Branthwaite comes back and stays fit, however if he doesn’t then it’s not the same level of defence and then it does become a worry for me.

People want to get behind Keane because he's an underdog at this point and has put in some decent performances recently. Nothing wrong with that either, should always give public backing to Everton players who are giving their all.

Privately though, I just find it impossible to ignore the defensive record while he's in the team. Said it yesterday in the match thread, even when Keane himself is playing well - we always, ALWAYS concede daft goals when he's playing. We have consistently, for years conceded far more goals when he's playing regardless of who's around him. It's frustrating and kind of defies logic but it is the reality.
