VAR

Shortly after they missed their pen, their full back blocked a cross in exactly the same manner that KDH blocked the shot. Any talk of it being a penalty was completely dismissed instantly.

The only difference was KDH was far closer to the ball and it was struck with far more velocity, other than that the body shape and everything was almost identical. So why is it a penalty if it's a shot but absolutely not if it's a cross?

Ref watch on Sky hilarious today. Jay Bothroyd talking complete sense. Gallagher seemingly being deliberately wrong he is so bad. Trafford can handle ball outside the area as long as it’s not deliberate. But if a 70mph shot 10feet away hits a players hand that is in a natural position it’s a stone wall pen. Bringing intent into some handballs and not others is madness.

The United goal he doesn’t seem to think it’s odd that VAR said he was just moving him out of the way and it wasn’t an impactful push. So it’s a pen if you grab a shirt, but not if you two handed push a player so they fly underneath the approaching cross.

A lot of the rules are far too convoluted, but the fact he, refs and especially VAR when watching in super slo-mo, come up with such wild justifications means it’s now impossible for decisions to apply common sense.

Bothroyd doing his best, but the host should really push the point that justifications he is giving make no sense, can he not see that.
It’s baffling how they let that baldy clown get away with his gibberish.
Sometimes wonder if they just a bit hamstrung in that if they call him out, that’s their show gone as they won’t be able get another ref in who will actually speak out, and then I wonder whether they’re just giving them the rope to hang themselves on National TV 🤷🏻‍♂️

Interesting that the MOTD guests went against the narrative: they said the Utd goal was a foul and their own pen was never a penalty!

Is this a first?
Gabby Logan summed it up by saying that they got the decisions the wrong way round and they all agreed in the studio. Fulham fans must be fuming. Another example of how desperate the Premier League is to get Manure back in the top six.

VAR should be scrapped. Just take it back to how it was. The ref makes a decision and that's it. Sometimes he gets it wrong sometimes not. I don't think that the 'advantages of VAR (the line shows that his toenail was offside) outweigh the disadvantages (don't celebrate that goal yet, we have a 16 minute check to do)!
Both of the "handball" penalties we conceded were given by the on field officials. VAR then did nothing to correct them. VAR isn't, in and of itself, the issue. The issue is that we have dimwitted and incompetent officials. PGMOL will be delighted that the discussion is about the abstract notion of VAR Vs no VAR and that the scrutiny isn't on their poorly trained and seemingly unaccountable officials. They are a disgrace.

Not a fan of var upgrading cards....if a referee sees an incident in real time and decided its a yellow then it should stay a yellow....

Challenges always look worse in slo mo....

It was Mintah - not identical- arm was down by his side.

If there is a serious looking incident, and the ref has had a good view of it, but knowing that it is a major decision in the game, can the ref ask to view it on video or does he only get to see it if the VAR has a word in his ear? In rugby, where I think football got the idea of VAR from, the ref will talk with his TMO and ask him to show video of incidents just to make sure he is getting decisions that can have a big impact on the game right.
