Everton Youth Teams Thread

I meant the principle mate. They’re best served where they are until they’re ready or unless there’s an actual chance they get a game.

What’s the point them being sat there for 90 minutes when they’re not getting on?

In 5 years time if they’ve made it I doubt they’re looking back thinking “It really clicked for me watching us beat Mansfield 2-0 in the Carabao, that was the moment”.
This, we literally started an 18 year old in central midfield, who has earned that spot and actually made a contribution instead of just a token appearance

The matchday experience? It happens all the time.

Then maybe they shouldve picked Tamen or Thomas who might actually have a future at the club instead of Campbell?
Or pick the 2 lads with first team experience in the league Mansfield play in as it is an important cup game which i think Moyes would like to win.

I'm all for giving young players a go if they are ready, but not at risk of getting knocked out of a cup.

The players that have been good enough in the past have filtered through and got first team football for us, the ones that haven't (with the exception of maybe Isaac Price, who has yet to play in the PL) have ended up Championship at best

There's just no way you seriously think Campbell or Onyango stood any chance of getting on yesterday though. Its a false argument, you or I stood as much chance as them at getting on. Especially if we were at risk of going out.

If Mykolenko got hurt early on, Obrien wouldve came on, if we then needed another defensive change, he'd have brought Tim on and moved Garner to full back. If then a midfielder got hurt he'd have brought Dewsbury Hall on. That's aside from the fact the difference in quality from Campbell and Onyango to other youth players is negligible at best.

It’s a valid point why those two were picked over others but they’re literally making numbers up.

What’s the point sitting youngsters with no chance of getting on on the bench?

Match day experience doesn’t really mean anything, better off having them there when or if there’s a chance of the getting on the pitch.

All a bit of a daft discussion, those who are good enough tend to break through. Exceptions maybe Robinson and Price in recent years.

It's swings and roundabouts I think. There are potentially benefits to players being given the matchday experience and it being a carrot for young players to be involved, but there's also the possibility of players getting ahead of themselves if they're introduced too soon or even just thinking nobody has done enough in training over the last week or so to deserve that little bonus. All in all I don't think it's necessarily a massive deal either way.
