I'm sure that was a fa cup tie with us being in yellow won 2-1 attendance was just under 50000What a tremendous photo. The way this photo was taken makes the GS seem much more bigger than it ever was (yes I know it wasn't small). Must have been some attendance that day, it looks packed.
It was our championship year 1969/70 - I went to every home game & many away games with my older brother - what a side - Leeds at home they were unbeaten arrived at the ground 90 minutes early as fans got locked outside that day - we were 3-0 up my hero scored 2 - we outplayed them two late goals for them ruined our domination over them -we chased them hard for the title that season & won it in style that why it was packed the football was a delight to watch ...What a tremendous photo. Top photo - Vogts and Netzer, two great players. I remember Netzer running England ragged at Wembley a year or so later.
Bottom photo is their goalie, Wolfgang Kleff - he had a great game that night.
Yes Joe missed the first pen & tgeys scored theirs we all thought we were out - the a fan shouted it's the best of 5 idiots…..remember that night, Rankin quite small but a terrific shot stopper. Think Joe Royle missed his pen and Sandy Brown blasted the winner but could have that wrong.
