2025/26 Jake O'Brien

I see a lot of talk online about everton desperately needing a RB
I dont see JO'B going anywhere.
His inclusion in the team is one of the main reasons our form turned around under Moyes and he's hardly put a foot wrong since.
Thats the kind of thing Moyes doesnt forget. He'd have to have a pretty poor run of form to be replaced.
Maybe the club should look for an Aznou type prospect as cover, replacing Coleman but not O'Brien.

I get the point but still playing out of position. If we getting a RB to replace him he must be clearly better. JOB will transition to CB over next year or two

Honestly he’s done a good job but he isn’t a RB and we need a RB who can do a job both ways, Mykolenko is ok defending then on the ball not very good looks to play the easy option which is usually back and while looking better under Moyes still isn’t fantastic going forward, for me it ruins the balance of the team

So, the RB issue.

Ok.

First half vs brighton, Mitoma tried to get physical with O'Brien, he shrugged him off (Mitoma went for a lie down via a few rolls) and Jake never broke stride, he stepped up towards the HW line and moved the ball on.
Shortly after brighton decided to swap Mitoma and Minteh to see if that got and change. It didn't, Minteh didn't end up on the deck but he never pushed his luck either.

I noted the Mitoma challenge in game (thread comms), because it was really funny, and he never came back for any more.

So to Wolves tomorrow, who get's Big Jake for a days work...

Big Jake used Mitoma like a Rag doll.

Does it to them all , Minteh kept trying to cut inside wouldn't dare try to take him on.
Don't mess with Big Jake .

It was so nonchalant though, that's what stood out, dealt with without so much as a backwards glance. Oak tree solid.

I found it so funny because of the scarcity such happens.

Exactly
He just deals with anything they throw at him and not in a Psycho Pat kinda way , but just as brutally efficient.

Tough as old boots and can play a fair bit too.
Like this lad a lot.

He's simply not creative enough to play RB in modern day football. You need some creativity at least. Also creates more space for Dibling or whoever is on the right wing.

Pretty damn solid defensively at RB though.

He’s not awful in attack to be honest. And he’s scary fast once he gets up to speed. I’d prefer a Baines/Pienaar option for both wings but I have no real issue with JOB at RB if an option like Juanlu Sanchez isn’t available.
There isn't a side on the planet that do not want that. Not one single side.
