Non League Football

My team, Holyhead Hotspur, have had a very tough start to the season, we narrowly lost at home Saturday to Holywell 1-0 and we have another away game at Rhyl today, sadly I can’t make today’s game.
I visited the Rhyl ground last year while I was on Holiday in Llandudno. The owner was cutting the grass, I introduced myself and said I wanted to have a nose as I had been talking to our ex Baggie Skipper Graham Williams who had started off at Rhyl. He invited me in and showed me round, nice little stadium

Was lucky enough to have played there a couple of times over the years, nice little ground Belle View

Tough game again, we went 3-0 down after 11 minutes, stayed that way until half time. We got one back quickly after halftime in the 48th minute and then another in the 49th. We then equalised in the 61st minute to make it 3-3 but sadly Rhyl got a 4th in the 75th minute and it stayed that way. On reflection though considering we were missing our 2 first choice fullbacks and our best central midfielder, and then one of our centre backs went off injured after 38 minutes the result was to be expected (I actually thought we’d get spanked) so I guess a lot of positives can be taken out of this for the manager and his team knowing now what the squad players can do when called upon.

@barneygumble

Thornton v league leaders Maghull here tomorrow.

Maghull flying, Thornton lost last 2 after an 87rh minute goal last week did them away at Nelson.

Not up here tomorrow for this are you?

Afraid not. Got prior commitments.

Maghull beat 2nd placed Steeton last week away. Just cant stop scoring, even on opening day they should have hit 7 past Squires Gate. Keep your eye out for Nathan Peet, cracking player, playing way too low. Ex-Liverpool Adam Hammill on the bench too.

Be a huge game tomorrow for Maghull. 3rd away in a row.

My next Maghull will probably be the Northwich Vase game, after the Derby (unless we win... if so, town).

Let us know how Maghull get on.

I will mate.

Thornton lost 0-2 v Steeton so form says should be an away win.

Got Steeton again in the cup end of September.

Thornton 5 Maghull 2

No exaggeration mate it could have been double figures. Were going through them like a knife through butter in the last 20 minutes.

Was surprised how easy it was to be fair, expected a lot more from Maghull.

Congrats on the win.

The one thing with Maghull, conceded but also score. If they're not scoring they can get a bit unstuck.

Learning curve i think, and a bit of a reality check. But im sure Joey will be delighted with the start.
