2025/26 Jordan Pickford

Allison, Ederson, Onana, Vicario, Sanchez, Martinez all make more errors in one game than Pickford will make all season. Raya is the only other keeper in the league close to his consistency.

Keepers always will especially the ones told to take risks on the ball.

I watched a doc last night on Sky about Van Der Sar going to United and the keepers they had after Schmichael left - Bosnich, Taibi, Howard, Barthez, Carrol - all buckled under pressure and consistency. Fergie let the goalkeeper coach pick the next one and got Van Der Sar at 34 from Fulham cos he had a £2mill release clause.

There's a lot to say about a keepers character more than attributes too. Pickford has made some big saves in big games.

Head and shoulders man of the match for me yesterday. I only really knew Southall post 1990 and may have missed his best years but for me Pickford now edges Nev as the best keeper I've ever seen for us.

About 3-4 years ago I was adamant he was finished here. To many mistakes in him. Thought he was very fortunate to still being picked for England. Luckily he had a manager in Southgate who stuck with him. He's doing brilliant.

I also thought there was a period when it felt like he was never going to grow out of his clangers. He has and he hasn't really in the sense that you'll still see him drop a couple through the season but because of how much is overall game has stepped up, they don't matter as much.

Which clangers? I can only think of a couple. And ALL keepers drop clangers, it goes with being the last line of defence.

I don’t think he’s ever let England down. When would Southgate have dropped him? After his excellent World Cup/Euros?

He had the Spurs one at the start of last season and one for England last season. Like I said, it's only a couple in a season now.
