Lads, it's Brighton.*

*A really brilliantly-run club, but one operating on a fraction of our budget and potential (all the more reason to celebrate their excellence both off and on the pitch). But the idea that we couldn't get a result today - or any day - against them given the historical and genetic mismatch betrays how low in self-confidence after decades of traumatic mismanagement many of our fans are.
We lost against an absolutely honking team the other day. Didn’t matter who was in front of us today, it was important we got at them, showed some decent attacking stuff from the new lads and rode our luck.

Big ticks all round.

Everton attacker Iliman Ndiaye, speaking to Sky Sports:
"It was very special. We are coming here to try and get the victory. We didn't begin the Premier League well last weekend but it felt good to come here and give the fans what they deserve.

On partnership with Grealish: "It could be great. Jack is an amazing player, we all know that. He assisted me for the first goal and the second goal. It could be very good this season."

these don’t always match up with the eye test but there’s much alignment here with the game thread re Grealish outstanding, Tim very solid, and Tark poor. Garners number inflated by the goal but tbf he did better in his LB responsibilities in the second half.

Of course, they have. Not in question.

But people were on here asking "do we have a chance?" against the mighty Brighton over the last few days. My God, the greatest Brighton side in their history - this one - regularly struggles to beat the worst Everton side in ours - the bones of our current side (who thrashed them 5-1 and beat 'em again last season).

We ALWAYS have a chance against whichever overachieving club is brilliantly outperforming itself against all odds. We can simultaneously admire and envy them while fully fancying ourselves to beat them in a one-off game.

Will we finish above this very good Brighton side? That's a different question. But our ownership still has 10 days of this window to make it a better fight...
We were lucky today, we showed bits of quality, but were there to be beaten. It could and probably should have been a very different tale at half time.
Brighton will stuff a few sides this season,it's a shame for them they don't have a bigger ground and support because with a couple of good additions they'd be pushing top 4.
