2025/26 Dwight McNeil

Hahahahahaa of course, having survived relegation in the final week of the season I’m sure they allowed us to put a European qualification clause in there.
He signed a 5yr deal. The club wouldn’t be thinking we’re just going to be fighting relegation for 5yrs. At the time the talk was 12mil with 7mil add ons and a small down payment 3mi, that’s the reason we got him because he was cheap
If the add ons, were basically very easy to meet, the club may as well have give them 16mil and made the extra 3mil hard to hit, I’m sure relegated Burnley, would have been over the moon with another 4mil. He’s was also only 22 when he signed, so still seen as a young player with a lot of potential

Well no but Burnley would’ve been thinking that.

He was about 12mil with add ons, and not many of them have been met Would be my guess, so say about 15mil max . Over 5 yrs it’s about 3mil a year. So he’s on the books for about 5 to 6mil so we get 17mil it’s 11mil to work with
If you google McNeil it states that the transfer fee from Burnley was close to £20M!

Yes 12 plus 7 was the talk at the time, like Liverpool do when selling they include the add ons and get it out in the media
No mention of £12M + £7M just the fee was close to £20M nothing about add ons like Iwobi went for £15M plus add on which would have taken him up to £25M or something like that, just close to £20M

His wiki page say he’s signed for a fee in the region of 20mil including add ons.
On the transfermarket we website it says 17mil in euros, that’s about 14.5mil now
Not sure what it was 3 yrs ago, but it was nowhere near 20mil outright

I like McNeil and think overall he's been a solid signing. Is he thank better than Ndaiye, Grealish or Dibling? Definitely not, thrown in Alcaraz and perhaps Tim and Hall being able to play further forward and he is definitely a sellable asset.

That being said maybe he makes himself into a LB option.

He's played the majority of his career under Dyche. The first to pull up someone pulling out of tackles.
OK, pulled out was probably too strong a term but he is 100% a half-hearted tackler. We witnessed it on so many occasions the last few seasons - it's not a coincidence that a group of 9-10 of us sat together week-in, week-out noticed it. Maybe it's the modern footballer or the position he plays but putting his foot in is definitely not in his repetoire.

How much could we get for him and who would be in for him.

No idea on price but going with these teams being interested:

Brentford
Burnley
Wolves
Leeds

Possibly. But its not a reason to not play him. Unless Moyes thinks so.

Hes also the fittest player in the squad so he'll run all day.

Thus thread has gone a bit:

Dwight is alright, but if the right offer came in and it facilitated movement in the market for better or other areas of the squad we need, then so be it.

That probably should be true of most of our squad. Its what we used to do. Admittedly out of necessity, but somehow we decided to forget that when mad Moshiri got excited with his checkbook.
