Homepage Article Recruitment Moan

It’s just more of the same. That’s what’s so dispiriting about Everton, nothing ever changes.

The football played is exactly the same no matter who the manager is (except for one season under Martinez and 7 games under Ancelotti). It’s low/mid block long ball rubbish with the hope we might get something from a turnover high up the pitch, a knockdown, or a set piece.

No matter who we bring in the team looks slow, weak, and technically poor. Every player we buy eventually devolves to this level even after a bright start.

We always have a glut of injuries, usually all in similar positions so we consistently have problems like no striker, no right back, no holding midfielder, no right winger.

We won’t win away at any of the top 6 grounds even though teams like Palace Bournemouth Brentford have no problem doing this.

We won’t win either Derby.

We won’t win a trophy.

There will be minimal away wins.

There will be absolutely minimal moments of pure joy for fans e.g last minute winner, comeback wins, direct free kicks, wonder goals.

We’ll stay close enough to bottom half trouble throughout the majority of the season playing turgid one paced football until February at which point being completely out of everything we’ll beat a few teams at home we’re supposed to beat once there’s no pressure on. If the fans are very very lucky there might be a home win v Chelsea or Spurs but barely ever Liverpool. Optimism will ramp up for the next season…..

And we’ll do the exact same again.

You’d think after all the players bought under multiple different managers that that might have changed just once in that period.

Seamus Coleman is still our first choice specialist right back. Michael Keane still starts a lot of games for us. Idrissa Gueye is still our holding midfielder. This is the same position as 2017 except we’re 8 years on, and most people hated that 17/18 team as well!

We could have retired Coleman, sold Patterson and bought a right back or two this summer. We didn’t.

This would have allowed JOB to go to CB and we could have not renewed Keane and bought a young CB in. We didn’t, we extended Keane and didn’t buy a new CB.

We could have let Gana go and buy two new central midfielders. We didn’t, we extended a 35 year old for two years.

We keep actively making the same decisions because they’re easy and sentimental fans lap them up, which results in the same players taking the pitch regularly for Everton. They’re not good enough!

Keep in mind as well Everton offered contracts to Young Doucoure and DCL! Imagine if any of them had agreed!!

If we want to move on in the future, we cannot have Everton teams were Coleman Keane Tarkwoski Mykolenko Gana Garner McNeil see a lot of football during the season. The results will just stay exactly the same. Some of those players have done very well for us and I like Tarkwoski and Mykolenko but they are all backs to the wall low block plodders. We won’t play anything different whilst they make up Everton teams.

I think I'm in love.

Removing the DoF has had the effect of blurring the lines of responsibility.
Moyes does not like working with a DoF , so TFG put a new structure in place.
Currently I believe this means that Kinnear , Hammond and Moyes are the main players in recruiting for this season at least.
This suggests that Moyes has a big say , so it was slightly ingenuous to hear him ( publicly )
grumbling about the apparent poor
performance of that structure.
Moyes has always been a master at shielding himself from criticism.
But again , we don’t have a clue how this clunky structure operates, which considering it is a triumvirate is ridiculous.

It’s not as if our squad deficiencies were not known about at the end of last season.

We have spent the whole summer trying to get whoever might be available to show the new owners are serious, not who we actually need.

It will cost us this season.
Its what we have done since 2017, just overinvest in certain areas of team and completely forget we need players in other areas. Beto isn't good enough to be our main striker, we need a new left back and right back. Summed us up when we spend millions in 2017 and ended up with our 4th choice right back at left back. We had no width at all and we play at a snail's pace. What's the point of buying a left back and then putting Garner at left back.

Moyes is clearly identifying the targets as we've got no head of recruitment in place at the minute. Hammond must be negotiating salaries, contract details and I would imaginge Kinnear is signing off on the transfer fees to pay. The main problem would seem to be identifying the wrong players (as per Moyes's comments about targets not wanting to join e.g. Fofana who wants Champions League). Also Moyes doesn't seem too concerned about the right back situation as per his comment the other day. His signings seem a bit all over the place to me.

I had a spare 20 minutes and pulled together some quick thoughts on our recruitment situation;

I’m looking to line up more articles for the front page, if you’ve got an idea for an article - whether it’s a detailed piece or a short opinion - drop me a message. We’d love to feature more fan voices on the front page.
Well said mate. My thoughts exactly. I am at the point where i am thinking why the hell didn't we just try and keep Thelwell. With actual money to manage and spend, I am certain he would have done a better job than these new guys are doing. It is so disappointing.

Blaming the market for poor recruitment is easy; winning teams focus on solutions, not excuses—identifying talent creatively and executing with discipline regardless of brand or budget. Employee's are paid to find soultions not feed off excuses.

I'm still getting people posting 'Lol' smilies when I ask if there'll be a protest about this unfolding catastrophe. It's as though they think that the mere act of buying Everton shares on the cheap absolves these Texans from seriously trying to turn the club around.

We're supposed to be grateful, and any protest would be an 'outrage'.

That is the way I see it also .
In which case Moyes must also be culpable for failing to identify attainable targets ( or maybe realistic alternatives) . Which implies to my admittedly prejudiced eyes that his deliberately public complaints had as much to do with shifting blame than solving the problems.
His complaints also cast doubts on the ( which I shared) argument that the window could only be judged fairly at the close since it’s clearly evident that something has gone awry.
From the outside it appears that not enough preparation had been made in identifying targets and establishing the chances of gaining the signatures.
Initially the list appears to have been small, and rather obvious with few alternatives.
When he was here last time Moyes gained a lot of respect ,quite rightly , for his astuteness in the transfer market. But on the flip side he also claimed the nickname of ‘Dithering Davey’ for his occasional hesitancy and indecision.
Perhaps we have seen too much of the latter and not enough of the former in this window so far?

You do realise we pretty much had to play those tactics, right?
I don't, but let's say you are correct that that is literally the only way we can set up, let's go back to your statement that that is the way we'll avoid a relegation battle. How does playing like that and losing to one of the weaker teams in the division help us avoid a relegation battle?

I know you won't hear a word against your hero, but Moyes got it badly wrong last night. The recruitment team also have done very poorly. Both things can be true.

As it stands if we get two proper fullbacks we'll be ok(if they stay fit) . What was glaring last night is if you have no natural left or right back the opposition can keep their shape. You're pulling nobody out of position. Thats how important fullbacks are today. Garner instinctively wanted to come back on his right. Not his fault. He's neither left footed or a fullback. And Ndiaye and Alcaraz. Absolute thankless task. Nobody to link with
Just ended up chasing back. And to be fair to both of them they put that thankless task in.
Its nothing short of scandalous that Everton have no natural fullbacks to choose from. I want to go and bang some heads together at Everton because im so pissed this hasnt been addressed. Almost every single Evertonian knew we needed to go buy in that area. And buy ready to hit the ground running. Not one for maybe a year or two. We had one fit fullback in mykelenko so we again knew we were one injury away from having none.
Scandalous this is happened again.
Honestly! Am not bothered about full backs. Am more bothered about us putting the ball in the net. Full backs dont win you games, strikers do.

We dont create any service to strikers. We went in at HT yest with 0 efforts on goal either on or off target. Wasnt much better full time. Part of the reason for that is because we never opened leeds up. If you cant get around teams with fullbacks over lapping to start giving players like Ndiaye space to create it all goes through the middle like last night and leeds defenders had an easier night than they did it the championship. Full backs do win you games as part of the system you play. Its all linked.
