Getting Older.....Mens edition

Yeah, I've never had any side-affects or allergies to/from a medication before in my life so I blamed it on my kidney disease. Stopped taking it for 2 days (which you're not supposed to do apparently but I'm male-dumb) after reading about poss affects and bingo. So glad to be rid of it. At a leggy 6'2.5", having wobbly legs is something terrible.
I did the same switch , had really bad insomnia and constipation with Atorvastatin after a week of taking it.
Everybody in the UK seems to swallow statins like smarties - i wonder how we poor benighted souls in the rest of the world manage without scoffing them...and their associated side effects...to the same degree

On a serious note, I’m not sure if I’ve ever mentioned this before, which in itself feels like a bit of a tragic oversight, but I’ve dealt with several medical issues over the years. I take medication to manage trigeminal neuralgia, which can be absolutely crippling if left untreated. I also live with arthritis and some mental health challenges. That said, I actually feel as fit as I did in my youth. Physically, I’m lighter than I used to be, and that has made a real difference.

Would love to go the bog for a number 2 more than once a week like but I’m dealing with that.

Early retirement in June 2001 aged 50.

Heart attack 2 months later. Triple bypass in Papworth March 2002.

Only stopped gigging in September 2022 (started in Jan 1969 in the nightclubs of Liverpool) after a week in hospital with sepsis and a kidney infection.

I try to keep going mentally - just finished re-writing and updating a book that I co-wrote with another researcher, Peter Cornwell, that was published in 1995. Second edition coming out next month, with a launch at the Battle of Britain Museum in Hawkinge, Kent. After calculating it all, have spent over 1,000 hours doing the update. Must be mad! Yes, I am mad!
Here's the cover:
Third cover.webp

I'll be 75 at the end of September, and I still have the mad b@st@rd attitude of the 1960s teenager that I once was...
