Not reading too much into yesterday’s game.

Away at Elland Road for their first match back in the league. They were always going to come out quick and try to get at us. But they have a distinct lack of quality in the final third.

A very dodgy penalty decision.

Our 4th choice CB starting as our 1st choice is injured. Our 3rd choice CB at RB. A right footed CM at LB. A left footed CAM at RW. Playing a PSR fiddle in CM.

Once branthwaite and Myko are back, the team will look a lot more solid. Simply must get a RW in before Brighton,

Was ready for utterly abject first game of the season against a promoted team and got it.

So much is wrong but… we have a forward who’s no good having it lumped up to him and Ndiaye, KDH and Alcaraz watching it sail above their heads for most of the game.

Also why does it take us 4 or 5 games to get match fit when Leeds can turn up first game looking like they’ve had all the inhalers? The difference in intensity and fitness was insane.

We started the season with the kind of cobbled together team you expect to see in mid-winter, when loads of players are either injured or playing in the ANC. I don't blame the players particularly, and they weren't help by a ref who gave the opposition everything including one of the most baffling penalty decisions I've seen in years.

The management of the club are entirely to blame for this. How can we start yet another season without a decent right-back, terrible strikers, and without anyone wide right? Even if we sign four or five more players, we won't have any depth to the squad and, come the mid-Winter scenario, we will still be playing a cobbled together side.

Leeds were dreadful, almost certainly destined to be part of the relegation battle, but we need to do something special before the window closes if we're not to join them there.

I agree that the injuries at CB and left FB have really messed us up, but it highlights how paper thin our squad is.
We NEED two players for every single position on the pitch, because injuries happen.
We have a backup left back, who didn't play - so presumably isn't good enough to be dropped in the first team yet.
We have two right backs, who didn't play - so either not trusted or too old and shouldn't have been given a new contract.
We have no right winger.
We have two strikers, and each one might be impactful in some cases, but neither are good enough to be relied upon as a starting number 9.

Some of these issues might sort themselves through the season (maybe Aznou and Barry will come good), but everyone and the club and every fan knew that our right side is almost non-existant. We muddled through last season with O'Brien doing a job at right back, and Harrison filling a hole (but not much more) further ahead.

To arguably be in a worse position at the start of the season is ridiculous. We might bring in some people before the transfer window closes. We might address any remaining issues in January. It's alarming we haven't sorted it yet, and even more worrying that we may have to go a whole season without.

….can only hope Moyes has a master plan in mind where his new signings blend and are on the same wavelength in terms of attacking cohesion and threat. I’m underwhelmed with both KDH and Grealish but it’s early days and I understand the formation needs to settle into whatever Moyes has in mind.

In the meantime, waking up with that ‘morning after a defeat’ feeling and not enjoying Everton. We don’t ask for much.
This talk is not for me, how come new players at other clubs fit right in and make their sides better, but at Everton they are given a pass for the first few months.

Can’t get my head around the pen decision! We were terrible but I didn’t expect the first half Leeds attack.

Game one. Don’t get too down, don’t get too up.

Wouldn’t start Beto next week: stank the gaff out
Actually meant to say that I did expect that Leeds first half - pints of pilsner to blame there. But they didn’t really create anything. 21 shots with 3 on target?

The frustration is that was Leeds at their best and they weren’t great, let’s be honest. Second half we started to get into the game more and the pen is a sucker punch.

Maybe with a better balanced side, we would have slowed the game down better in the first half and took more control.

Serious question marks over Beto too. I get his game isn’t holding the ball up but he needs to be able to do more to help us move up the pitch.

….i don’t disagree, that’s why I’m hoping it’s not as bad as last night.

I accept our key signings so far rather than being happy with them, I’m just hoping it falls into place at some point.

….anybody suggest we missed Doucoure’s energy? Probably not

He would have fitted right in, he can't pass a football either. Seriously we were awful, outfought and outplayed, Leeds hunted in packs, thought they were very aggressive but the ref wasn't at the races either, he was definitely intimidated by the partisan home crowd. Our players never really supported each other on the ball from the start, Leeds players did, we looked undercooked and under prepared for Leeds aggressive approach, four years is it that we've never won a game in August, it must show we are doing something wrong but we just don't seem to learn from it. Another thing picked up from last night, manager second season syndrome, it's happened to loads of our previous managers and I sincerely hope it's not happening to this one.

As bad as we were it took an extremely soft penalty for Leeds to win, We'll be fine, It's hard to deal with Everton playing that poorly and also having the feeling of being robbed makes it feel far worse.

The conspiracy theories on here are absolutely ridiculous.
No, it's not.

Make WHAT more competitive?

Sky Sports' Jamie Carragher: "Leeds were excellent in the first half. In the second half, Everton came in and nullified Leeds a little bit.

"We need the promoted teams to get off the mark and build some momentum and make it more competitive than it's been for the last two years.

If that's a pen then rather than trying to open up a team and play football when in or approaching the penalty area you might as well target hitting an arm even when down by the side and behind a player's back when crossing or shooting. It's the % play these days which just shows where the game has gone. Really sad state of affairs.
If you think that we would get a pen for that then you're as mad as @davek
