Surprised how many people saying it wasnt a pen. So many quick to jump on a refs back for doing his job. It was a pen he leaned into the ball that came from distance with his arm

Garner for our MOTM?

As an aside - Neville and Carragher there have us lower midtable this season with the likes of Wolves, West Ham & Brentford in trouble, along with the promoted three. Seems to be the general consensus across the footy punters from what ive been seeing.

I reckon, depending on when exactly we get our acts together, that a top half finish is very achievable.

Brave given what we’ve just seen.

We’re the worst team ive seen so far (albeit I didn’t watch West Ham) but even Wolves looked better coached against us - if we’d played City like that we’d be looking 8 to 10-0

Final thoughts…

We failed to prepare properly during pre season.
The team selection and set up tonight was weird and unacceptable.
The transfer market (so far) has lacked proper strategy and thought.
There seems to be discord within the club… arguments about recruitment. The mole etc etc

Tonight’s performance and result should not be a surprise.

We showed absolutely nothing tonight to suggest we will be top half. We fielded a relegation standard 11 who performed badly.

The recruitment so far hasn't moved us forward, our squad is too small and we already have injuries.

And we are no doubt off to yet another slow start in winnable matches due to another disorganised and sub standard pre season.

I think they are fair in their predictions. We aren't currently very good.

What annoyed me was that we were playing ok 2nd half and then suddenly stopped. The goal was during a period we had started making stupid mistakes.

Tough watch in the leeds end that , clearly the game plan was to weather the storm first half then push on second half which we did to an extent, Leeds fans very frustrated second half thinking we were looking likely to nick it till the pen which I thought it was in real time but not seen all the replays.

Some on here were saying let’s wait till September 1st to judge our window and accused others of being bedwetters for questioning our transfer dealings up till now. I hope they are happy having watched that performance. That team was grossly unprepared and lacking in quality. There is no excuse, we know what positions needed strengthening since Jan. I am sick and tired every season Everton basically writing off August because we aren’t prepared. Inexcusable. We got what we deserved tonight, even though it was an appalling decision against us.

Thought we were awful in USA tonight we were even worse the worry pre game was Garner at LB he was our best player.The midfield was atrocious. The attack was nonexistent. People going on abt McNeil lack of pace should have come on at half time terrible performance.

Exactly. Make shift back four handled it. The 6 in front of them were rancid.

Struggling to name a MOTM to be honest, still pondering it. Garner maybe? It was poor across the park wasn't it.

Blame for the goal solely rests with Keane for me, we were starting to build a bit of momentum and incrementally pushing forward, his completely unnecessary backpass instantly put us under unnecessary pressure and not his first of the game either, he couldn't get the ball back to pickford quick enough.....that said we were muck overall, completely unbalanced, what premier league side starts the opening game without a recognised fullback (bar semi retired Coleman) in the squad???
