They were crap? Really? They have just come up from the Championship and dominated the game in ALL the stats. We "deserved" nothing.

And neither did they. They played it like a cup final and only managed the win from a very generous penalty decision. We were shocking, but we'll get better. I fear that's one of the best performances they'll make this year.

Penalty decision has taken the spotlight off that derisory performance. One of the worst in years first half and second half wasn't much better.

For years now people calling out the terrible preparation, poor recruitment and shocking pre-season results have been called bedwetters' by a proportion of the forum. That tonight was a culmination of those problems for the 5th season running.

Brighton will beat us Sunday and Wolves will probably get their first pints of the season against us the week after. Then it will be another August without a point.

Sunday is massive now, the goodison factor is gone. I dont hold much hope given the execution on the transfer window front.

If we cannot get a result this weekend then I think we need to adjust our targets for the season.

To all the negative bell whiffs: to start the 1st game at Elland Road with a hostile crowd was an immediate disadvantage, There’s 37 games left, sort a right back/winger, defensive Midder & possibly a striker to play off the shoulder then we’ll be sound.

We need to integrate Grealish, Barry & Aznou ( 5 games away) into 90 min football, only negative is Gana looks slightly off pace & think he’ll be targeted more this season with a hard press. Safe journey home blues.

I think Leeds was overall very fit compared to us. Gana did seem slower. Unlike him. But a few others looked leggy

Agree but think it's harsh on beto. Could barely say he touched the ball 5 times, absolute nothing balls into him on the very rare occasions we went forward. Same thing with every striker we have, Barry was and will be the same if we continue to have absolutely nothing to give to them

It's a bit like the chicken and the egg. He did get very few useful balls but every ball he did get, stopped our possession immediately. The problem is that his first touch is non-existent. If you want to play a possession kind of football, he is useless. Since he cant hold a ball, has no linkup play, no first touch, everything stops with him. You basically play with 1 person less. If you want to play a striker like him, you need to play a very direct style of football but we lack pace on the wings for that. With KDH, Grealish, Ndiaye and Alcaraz we have attackminded players who like to have the ball instead of running after it the whole time (defensively or in attack). Beto is not the striker to play alongside those players. Not his fault, just not his qualities. I dont mean to bash him since I do think the guy has heart. He just isn't good enough for what we want to do.

The old writing was on the wall with that starting 11 , after our much anticipated rebuilding just KDH and Barry coming on at 86 min was ridiculous. I can’t recall being so disinterested in the first half of a first game of the season. Hopefully there’s a BMD/ HD effect to come.
