That's because Anfield WAS a dump before they started redeveloping.

Sandon Dock wasn't inside the WHS or Conservation Area Boundary. It was in the 'buffer zone' but with it being a significant infrastructure requirement, it would have been viewed differently in planning terms than a private commercial development.Where was the outcry when UU filled in Sandon Dock ?
I know because it was before WHS status was given but Sandon Dock was every bit a part of Hartleys Docks as Bramley Moore - where was Rowan Moore then is what I really should have said.Sandon Dock wasn't inside the WHS or Conservation Area Boundary. Man starts article desperate to criticise new stadium. Fails to find anything but publishes rambling pile of disjointed nonsense anyway.
Suppose we should spare a thought for all the staff that lost their jobs in the thriving world heritage UNESCO tourism industry at the docks before we ruined it with our colossal investment.
Well don’t, just get the train to SandhillsI went to the club shop at the new stadium today, I was hoping to go around and spot my tiles on the Everton Way but it’s still closed off to the public (and the security guard said they’ve not been told when we’ll be allowed to walk around on non match days).
The stadium looks great, I couldn’t work out where I could park though - I’m hoping to get some tickets for the league cup game and don’t fancy walking for miles with my 6 year old son.
Not exactly the best option for most simply to buy Everton merchandise.Well don’t, just get the train to Sandhills
I hope that some supporters have contacted the author of that ridiculously one-sided article to explain how the club has bought the heritage features of Bramley-Moore Dock to life whilst providing an economic boost to the North Liverpool Docks and Vauxhall area.Man starts article desperate to criticise new stadium. Didn’t the city lose it due to the volume height and quality of new development rather than the stadium specifically?Man starts article desperate to criticise new stadium. Fails to find anything but publishes rambling pile of disjointed nonsense anyway.

its thinly veiled hit pieceI hope that some supporters have contacted the author of that ridiculously one-sided article to explain how the club has bought the heritage features of Bramley-Moore Dock to life whilst providing an economic boost to the North Liverpool Docks and Vauxhall area.
What benefits and attraction did a crumbling, disused and derelict dock bring to the Liverpool City Region? I doubt many people decide to visit a location based on a UNESCO World Heritage status, rather their decision would be based on the attractions on offer to visit. Our city can now offer a world-class waterfront stadium in addition to its other attractions, which is a world away from the shell-of-itself dock was never the tourist attraction which our new stadium is.
The author's attempt to imply that the club was somehow involved in the alleged bribery in the City Council was a further feature of a poorly written article which was left scraping the barrel for criticisms of a fantastic new stadium.
True story,my first ever derby “over there” ,the Floorcloth last minute winner,Grand National morning 1976,my recently dearly departed Dad had somehow manage to acquire seats right on the halfway line in their main stand, before the game my old fella was showing me the Anny Road End which was mainly a sea of Blue and White, then he looked to the right and told me that was the Kop,we were surrounded by that lot,I looked at my dad in my blue and white bobble hat and scarf both knitted by my nan and said in a loud voice,”Yes Dad,it’s really not a patch on Goodison is it?”And it truly wasn’t back then, out of the mouths of babes and infants eh?My old man said we used to give grief to the RS over their stadium (you don't even have escalators etc).
Then they did the refurb in the 90's.
