I know I’m parodying slightly the constant demand for ‘pace’ over all other attributes .
But do people realise under Moyes we will habitually have one striker up front ?
By the time Billy Whizz gets to the by line to ‘whip’ it across he will have generally 1 chance to find Beto before he is closed down just before our supporting players arrive .
Added to the fact that Beto is much more dangerous running onto through balls .
Barry is an unknown quantity at present .
We aren’t in the 1950’s , teams need more guile and intelligence to prosper .
I’m not saying a burst of speed isn’t desirable in a wide player , it is an important option to have.
But if it’s your only option you will struggle to win games more often than not .

Moyes need fast player to counter. Said this millions of times, West Ham scored the most counter attacking goals in the league under moyes. If fast player make this easier, which I’ve no doubt it will, then let him have speed down both flanks.

I didn’t want a sprinter on the wing , or anywhere else on the football pitch .
I want a player who is intelligent has vision and superlative technical ability , can control the ball , and can vary his deliveries.
Leave the sprinters for the athletics track , and year 3 schools teams .

You do realise you just described klaassen.

This league is all about pace and power and if you dont have it you'll find yourself battling relegation. Just like we've been

There's nothing wrong with Brownhill tbf, he just wouldn't improve us. Dibling will improve us amd himself but be lovely to find a gem that City and Chelsea have not already hoovered up.
He has one season (last season) of standout goal scoring, other than that he can't pass or tackle properly and his general numbers for a midfielder are pretty poor tbh given his age.

You don’t even need your pacey player involved in the build up. Their mere presence occupies the preparation, shape and mindset of opposition. Teams have for years been able to focus on their own attacking gameplan completely unconcerned by us, with the only thing their coaches need to say when playing against us is “win the second ball.” Our striker constantly marked by both CBs and our 10 surrounded because no-one felt the need to double-team when Harrison had the ball out wide. Sick of both opposition full backs playing level with our box because they can slowly trot back when they lose the ball.

Might not play every week, but if we still don’t have that player in the squad yet again, then a lot of other things we may do are lessened.

I think Moyes gameplan would be to have the 2 wide players e.g Ndiaye & Dibling cutting inside to occupy the space between CB & FB on the counter.

Meanwhile the central duo of KDH & Grealish are carrying the ball and combining through the middle before either releasing the CF or the 2 wide players very quickly.

For this to work I think we'd need to sign a 6 who not only has very good positioning and intelligence but also speed. He'll need to cover both sides and centrally in front of 2 CBs & OBrien who would come inside.

And that is why Moyes has never found universal acclaim as a manager , ( and only one success ) , limited tactics.
Solid mid table manager , who is a master of reactive football .
It is why I never wanted him back .
I hope he is able to alter his style this time around . Last season gave me some hope he was ready to produce a more proactive style.
But probably looked better because he replaced a vastly overrated and ultimately very poor manager who was also a defensive coach .

No agreed, it was more aimed at the lynch mob on here tbf. I’m still unsure on Dibling myself and think it’s likely a moot point as don’t see him coming now.

Ok
Pace n’ power
Rugby Union then
Prefer association myself
But each to their own .

Dont do rugby, leave it for the Tories.

Personally, i prefer to win games of football over idealism and Players with power and pace win football matches in the PL.

Id love for us to have the players with the abilities you mentioned but with out pace their just sitting ducks.

Even james whem we played him we had to play doucore who had to do twice as much running to make up for it.
