2025/26 David Moyes

Nah!
You’re right
They’ve bought us to maintain our mid table
obscurity .
It’s our decades long utter insignificance that they are investing billions of pounds to preserve.
Throw in one of those last gasp survival seasons , and they’ll be satisfied.
Boredom and nothingness are a real money spinner.

They will eventually want us to be fighting for Europe, but that won't be their expectations now, are you nuts.

If you read what I posted I suggested that this seasons target would be qualifying for European competition.
Their ultimate aim would be comparable as they seemingly have for Roma.
Also, I don’t think Moyes is going to be allowed to pootle along in mid table for the duration of his contract with no pressure. There have to be signs of progression , surely .?
And progression is measured by improved performances and higher finishing positions than the previous season .

We've not finished in the top half of the table, and even that was just 10th, since Carlo 5 years ago. Moyes has been lightly backed so far you'd say but you think if he doesn't qualify for Europe this season, so 7th, maybe 8th, they might fire him?

Challenging for Europe within 2 seasons is their stated aim, is it not?
In this case I assume you mean being in or around the CL places in 2 seasons?
This season I would imagine they would expect us to be close to qualification for one of the lower European competitions .

You have low expectations.
Last season , following Moyes successful second half the season , the talk was that extrapolating his points total for a full season, we would have been securely amongst the European places.
Yet you are of the belief that this season he will be ok to regress from that point and finish in the lower half of the table , despite an injection of quality into the side ?
I hope our new owners have higher expectations than that, and closely scrutinise any failure to match his performance last season .

Where did I say this?

You didn’t to fair .
But I interpreted that you implied it.
If that was an erroneous assumption I apologise wholeheartedly for misconstruing your words.
Either way , I hope the minimum requirement this season is qualification for European competition anything less would be a failure in my eyes and I hope the administration view it similarly.

I personally think we're Top 10 material right now, barring injuries, but we definitely need more. I would like to think with 2-3 more players we could push for say Top 8 BUT, and I must stress the but part, I don't believe that should be a survive/sack ultimatum on Moyes if we don't.

We've been rubbish for years. We have strengthened, but so have most other teams.

I could be the minority with this view but when Moyes bemoans the lack of transfer activity success rate , I don't interpret him attacking or communicating more urgency from the recruitment team it feels more like a collective venting about the frustrations as if you know Moyes he's firmly involved with the recruitment teams efforts. Even at West ham when he wasn't directly controlling ever transfer decision he was still providing input, Moyes being at the mercy of a recruitment team doesn't jibe with what I know of Moyes.

We are in agreement on everything I think apart from managerial culpability.
I think Moyes ( or any other incumbent) should be held responsible for the performance of the team .
Allowing the manager to escape any repercussions for poor performances, or failure to attain minimum targets is a poor way to run any business.
Minimum targets ( whatever they may be in this case ) should be achieved, that is why they are ‘minimum’ targets after all.
Failure to do so should always elicit a robust review at the least .
