The European places thread 25/26

I would have been an enthusiastic contributor to this thread in May. Even in June.

But now...nah.

These new owners have revealed their colours. They may be willing, but they seem to hire an awful lot of incompetents...

If our form under Moyes was extrapolated over the full season we would have finished 8th or 9th. That is our current benchmark.

We have strengthened a couple of areas, still some work to do on a couple of others, but if we get a couple of decent players in to play on the right, then there is no reason we shouldn't be expecting a European place this season

We`ll probably get a conference league place, as will Roma, and then the fun and games will start when we get booted out over multi club ownership.
Wouldn't promoting one of the clubs to the next level also solve the problem, although it shouldn't be a problem after all there aren't rules in place that forbid multi club ownership so UEFA allow it but make an issue out of it at the same time.

They allow the multi-club ownership so long as two clubs from the same set up are not in the same competition, and when they do qualify for the same competition the club that finish higher in their league position get into the higher competition and the other gets shafted. Its similar to a Merseyside derby, if a decision is in doubt, penalty RS, if Liverpool are under pressure, penalty RS.
I think they have this in place so that if two clubs from the same ownership face each other that there can be no doubt that one team isn`t being given a better chance of winning by the owners than the other. Its funny how they have this approach to try to keep things fair yet when certain teams blatantly break financial rules its sweep it under the carpet for some teams and crucify other teams.

While I don't think we'll be flirting with relegation this season, I sadly don't think we'll have the firepower to get into the top 7.

I mean, the top five is locked out already in one order or another: City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, United.

I don't think United will fail this season given the rather decent set of strikers they've brought in. If they get a real goalkeeper in too they've got every chance of top four.

Newcastle are a few players away from challenging that group, and if Forest make the signings they're linked with they won't be too far away. Spurs will be very close as well.

Villa currently have a stronger all-round squad than us, too.

I put us currently on level with Brentford, Palace and Bournemouth—best of the rest if you will.

Our club's failure to properly address our obvious problem areas in time will be our downfall—unless of course they pull out at least two quality signings in the next 2 weeks, then no reason at all why we couldn't be at least up amongst Newcastle, Forest, Villa and Spurs.

Clearly they the authorities give certain clubs free reign to dip into an endless money pit it makes it all the more difficult for clubs like Everton that actually need to stick to the rules for fear of points deductions.
I think Utd will fail. 10th for them !!

Forest look a good side again.
They started well last season too but fell away when we got to the business end of the season. I think it`ll be the same this season with the extra games in Europe to deal with. I could see that nutter of an owner giving the manager the chop if their form was very poor mid season and they could fall away quite badly.
