Last Film You Watched

Watched Alien Romulus last night, before thinking about starting Alien Earth.

Switched it off after an hour - zero character development, the first act completely glossed over, unnecessary and unrealistic confrontational behaviour, appalling SFX with Ian Holm, unlikeable characters who I didn't care about. Urgh
That is so funny you mention that. I finally got around to watching Romulus. And I more or less see it the way you do. Missed the mark. The way I can tell as it relates to me is normally I’ll watch a movie all at once. I paused Romulus about 10 times and it took me as many days to finish it. Alien: Earth has captured me enough. Imo, it’ll always be hard to top the original Alien. Superb. But of all that have been released afterwards, I really love Prometheus and Covenant.

It's put me off watching Earth, for now

Watching 'Jurassic world Afterbirth' or whatever it is.

Everyone is dumb.
There is no need to make people dumb.
Stop it.

It's infuriating.
It’s an awful movie. I was surprised that Gareth Edward’s directed it. It was just the same rehash of everything we have seen before except with a slightly different ‘monster’. Absolutely pointless other than a cash grab.

Given there has been so much dross not worth seeing over the years, I was happy that in a short window Jurassic Park, Superman, and Fantastic Four all hit around the same time. I liked them all, even Jurassic Park. Maybe it’s because I grew up in the 70s and 80s and know just how bad sci-fi and super hero films can look. Even the very worst Jurassic Park or Marvel film blows away anything I saw as a kid. Seeing the first Jurassic Park was pretty magical for me.

Reeves is still the GOAT for superhero stuff.

In other news, anyone interested in Alien, there is a very good animated short on YouTube called Monday.

Well worth a watch. Don't let it being animated put you off.

With honours. From the early 90s with Joe Pesci and Brendan Fraser. I’d never heard of it but someone recommended it to me after I mentioned I’d rewatched my cousin vinnie. Decent enough watch.

the place beyond the pines. 2012. Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper and Ray liotta. Started off ok but dragged, was like watching 3 different films which is it’s charm apparently but not for me.

I’ll definitely check out the Alien short. But I’m with you totally about Christopher Reeves. Always my Superman, though I can pretty much only defend the first two films 😂.

This latest Superman really got me in my feels. Henry Cavill was great. I like Ben Affleck. Liked Lil’ Bobby Pattinson. I liked the darker turn. Just like how Christian Bale did the same for Batman. Over the course of thousands of comics both Superman and Batman have been light and dark. So it’s all valid to me.

But I think in today’s world it was just so nice and refreshing to have some campiness and silliness to Superman again. He was vulnerable. He was polite, the kind of hero who saves kittens from trees, opens the doors for ladies, says, please, thank you, and ma’am.

This version was the first in forever that made me feel like a kid again. I was surprised at the weakness of my tear ducts that day.

I did really enjoy Superman but my only real gripe with it was the lack of Clark Kent. A big part of what made Reeve’s version so good was the mix of both. We basically got one scene in this

Good point. I just rewatched the original one again a few weeks ago and that is a huge part of the charm. There was the whole scene acting scared when they were in the alley getting mugged. He said he fainted but caught the bullet. Lots of Daily Planet scenes.

And I’m maybe old school, but I like that Lois didn’t know Clark was Superman. If this new one continues, I think an opportunity was missed with all the misdirections of her thinking could it be? Nah. Maybe? Love that.

Now, getting pissed because an earthquake swallowed up your girlfriend and so you’ll spin the earth backwards to correct events was even a little much for me as a kid. But I’m all in on these movies so I accept that must have been the only alternative 😂.
