2025/26 David Moyes

My concern with Moyes is short-termism.

Alcaraz had a cracking loan spell, and we secured him for a decent fee. Following this summers signings, I’m not sure he’s going to get the game time, which will impact his development and resale value.

He seems to be after Premier League ready signings. Maybe because he knows himself he won’t be manager for the long term. But buying Premier League ready didn’t work under Moshiri and I don’t think it will work now. I’d rather us be looking for players on the continent with a high ceiling.

After the failure of the Moshiri years, I’d hoped we would be a bit more like Brighton / Bournemouth/ Brentford in our recruitment.

If there was £150mil to spend as it seems.

I'd have expected a clear and effective approach.

People wanted the Moyes comfy cardigan and that's what they got. I understood the sentiment in getting him in to get us safe, but I was never convinced he had a future beyond that. However, people were happy for him to stay on after his very good job last season...but while we avoided immediate upheahval in keeping him, the downside was his horizon was always going to be more limited. I don't think anyone thought the window would be this poor, so far, though.

One thing's for sure: how this window concludes will have huge implications for the Friedkins...and Moyes.

They've bought into his results and feedback has been that the fans love him.

Also they'll probably have seen him as a safe pair of hands for a couple of seasons to stablise the club before moving onto someone who can challenge towards the top 6 places.

At Roma they had a DOF of course and i think theyve really bought into Moyes for the next 2 seasons.

I dont think a poor run dooms him quickly. This may be why he's complaining about transfers to strengthen his position.

2 seasons of Moyes 'should' see the team up in 8th-10th where another substantial tranche of funds would need to be injected. Whether they choose him to be at the helm remains to be seen.

The signings so far (with possibly the exception of Aznou) seem to be short term. This points at Moyes targeting a very quick improvement in league position.

I suspect that the minimum expectation from the leadership is top 10.
It's more like they have bought into Moyes (well before last seasons results) lock, stock and barrel. They've scrapped the DOF role because of Moyes. Unless the results turn really disastrous he's here for a number of years with a view to moving him upstairs.

Yep this is what's going to be the issue. It's why TFG should've told Moyes to work under Thelwell or lump it. Instead they allowed him to effectively dictate the running of the club.

How is it moyes fault he wasnt given the players we needed in time for the new season ?

Who is on the transfer committee?

On the transfer committee who do you think selects the targets?

If the targets are out of reach then whose fault is that? As an example of absolute stupidity, expecting Conceicao would be an option.

What was the managers strategy when broadcasting to clubs that the club was desperate for signings? Was it to strengthen their hand in negotiations, or for what purpose?

Why did the manager say to a crowd of Evertonians that he wanted 9 or 10 players and then grin and laugh like a deranged lunatic?

Sure, you can blame Hammond for poor negotiation. It doesnt appear as though he's done the work with agents/clubs on Moyes list.

But theres clearly one of the 3 who has driven the names to target and approved the signings.

At the same time, the simple reason we aren’t bringing in players is because of the past few seasons always battling relegation. The exciting players are getting courted by everyone and they will always take the best offer, which 9 times out of 10 isn’t coming from us. They want the best combination that maximizes Champions League play, salary, and playing time.

I think it's very likely moyes has input on what players we go for.

I think it's very unlikely he is involved in contracts and negotiations. He's not going to be the one closing deals would be my guess.

Premier league
New stadium
Big money being spent
Well known manager
Higher salary

The right targets are there. Our competitiors are signing them.

He selects the players and then Hammond is responsible for doing the deals. I think this is fairly transparent.

We can blame the person supposed to be doing the deals. But i also blame the person selecting players to target.

For me mate, it's about the people who are in charge of competing deals.

That's Hammond and Kinnear. They are the ones who have failed.

Who are you negotiating with?

I think the John McGinn and Conceicao name leaks tell me all i need to know about Moyes failure.

In addition i dont see why Hammond has been hired. Whats his record of accomplishments that deem him superior than someone from a financial background for example.
