Kubo definitely wasn't cheaper as sociedad demanded full release clause because of real Madrid 50% deal. (€60 million release clause)
However, i gave this some thought. ..could we not have paid sociedad the €30 mill (about 26 mill) and negotiated with Real Madrid to take over the stake they had in the player?
I.e Madrid get 5 million as a sweetener with still keeping 50% buy on clause?
About 30 million for a top top player.
With Moyes saying he’d like another RB but there are higher priorities, he’s obvious happy with JOB there, with Keane as the first line of CB cover.
Ignoring other pros and cons (i.e. playing Keane) of this, could go two ways this for a young player like Dibling. Helpful in the sense that he’d have a more defensive and solid defender behind him, so he can be freed up to “express himself” and take a few risks, driving towards full backs. But then would the lack of any real overlap from JOB leave him isolated and kicked off the park?
I’d hope more the former, but the whole window has been very disjointed. Be worried about our plan B (or more likely our plan J) if he takes any part in Southampton’s game.
Why do you think he's happy with this?
Can't he have higher priorities but still not be pleased they're his options?
Lots of false words put in Moyes' mouth since that presser from people on here.
How did you take it?
I took it that he wants a whole new right-hand side but that there are higher priorities than the right-back. Which is what he said. I'll even transcribe it just for you:
"Do you feel like the right hand side, both going forward and at the back, is somewhere where maybe you're a light?"
"You should be the scout."
"Yes, we do."
"About right-back you've obviously got Jake O'Brien who's played there a lot. Do you, on the other hand, think that actually you're not too bad for players who can do a job there. Maybe James Garner is another one."
"Yeh but we would like, we'd like, we know Jake can do the job there - he can play centre half as well. Uh, you know, Seamus is still around as well who we'll use when we think he's fit and ready, as well. We've got Patterson as well. So we have people in the position. So we may try and get another right-back but at the moment we might just have some other priorities."
Not once in that exchange did Moyes say he was a) not thinking right-back was a priority, nor b) be "obviously happy" with our right-back options.
Wish people would just learn how to listen properly.
He didnt go into RW, only RB.
So i'd take it to mean the priority is RW and if a RB isnt signed (though he wants one) then he'll make do with who he has.
I’m no expert like but I’m pretty sure moving into a brand spanking new stadium (complete with a very decent sponsorship deal) and selling our women’s team will have alleviated any PSR concerns for a good while yet.Clearly you’ve forgotten about PSR concerns which will always complicate things. It’s not ambition to spend £45-55m on players and end up with another PSR charge that’s just plain idiotic

I don't know how much we have in our transfer fund - and it may be that £45m stops us getting a preferred 2nd signing.
What I would say though is Saints aren't just playing hardball with us. They do it on most of their sales - and Saints fans back this - having seen ost of their prime assets sold when as a fan they'd rather keep them.
I think we would pay £45m - and I also think as a long term addition - and in todays market - that heis worth it.
I wonder if the club want to shield him from the fact he would become our most expensive player and all the nonsense that comes with it? As far as I know Siggy is still our most expensive buy - and he got a lot of flak as a result of this if he didn't perform better than others. It was definitely a stick some used to beat him with.
Dibling will by no means be the finished product if we get him - we won't see the best of him for a couple of years - and we all know what afanbase is like when the most expensive aquisition may not even always be in the starting 11.
Anyway - just musings. For my tuppence worth I have followed him play and I'd pay the money that Saints want. We won't be sorry.
I think the Grealish signing loses value if we don't bring Dib in. We can't half arse this. His signing is key to the window imo
