Confirmed Signing Tyler Dibling

I don’t think we’re spending 40+ on a single player. We apparently balked at Leicester’s 30 million valuation for Fatawa, which doesn’t seem at all excessive looking at the fees being spent by others at the moment.

If you want a good player, I’m afraid you have to pay good money for them.
If this is the case I’d have to question the ambition of the TFG unfortunately. £20/25m signings only get you so far in the PL these days.

Seems to me that we’ve run out of ideas. No real new links after the Dibling saga.
Maybe we have just run out of ideas being leaked? I don't think I had seen that new goalie mentioned anywhere until he signed.

At least, I'm hoping we have just plugged the leaks and there is a grand announcement or two to come

Absolutely no chance there's any movement on this until after Southampton's game tomorrow. Best case scenario is significant movement on Monday ahead of our game so we can get it completed by Wednesday and give him a couple of training sessions before Brighton.

That's presuming it is actually going to happen, which seems a flip of the coin at the moment.

Of course not. Look at Branthwaite, we pretty much priced him out of a move to Man Utd.
Any club which doesn't want to sell will always hold the upper hand (unless the player is a complete d1ckhead and downs tools)
Saints are just doing the exact same as we did to Man Utd - if you want him, you know the price. Either pay it or look elsewhere
I appreciate what you are saying, but there is a difference between the two. Braithwaite was outstanding at PSV and had just enjoyed an excellent first season in the PL. he’s English and a left footed centre back that comes at a premium.
Whereas Dibling is just 19 and has scored 2 goals for a relegated team. He is not worth the 50m the Saints are demanding. They were hoping other clubs would enter the fray, but not at that price they won’t. Massive decision for them. They keep a disgruntled player whose value is only going to decrease from now on or get back negotiating with us at a more realistic price.

It doesn’t get you far if you concentrate all your efforts on PL experienced players or those already performing at CL level .
( although Barry was a successful acquisition in this regard)
Just feel that the transition from Thelwell to the new , as yet incomplete, system has cost us.

Fatawa has not long come back from a serious injury. The club obviously don’t want to chance it with crazy money.

It’s only cost us in the short term if it has cost us at all, it remains to be seen as:

1. The window hasn’t closed and so business isn’t finished.
2. The season has only just kicked off, if we progress this year then it hasn’t failed.

The benefits of a change of system again remain to be confirmed. I think people just love to assume the negative outcomes. Let’s judge it when we have the foresight of how it’s gone, this early is just moaning for the sake of it.

I’m not giving a final judgement and I have mentioned before on here that final judgement can only be made when it closes .
But you can assess how it is proceeding.
We know we don’t have all the appointees in place yet , so it wouldn’t be particularly surprising if the current window is somewhat ad hoc and poorly prepared.
Certainly , at the moment, all the reported targets and acquisitions appear to be relatively low hanging fruit . There have been no links to hitherto unknown players or hidden gems . The lad from Bayern being a slight exception, perhaps .
