Transfer Rumour Tyler Dibling

Agreed. However look at it another way, they could be fighting hard as they are confident he will be a £70m+ player soon. If that is the case and he either stays and does great things for us or we move him on for a profit and we've had the benefit of a player for no outlay.

If based on the figures above we cut the sell on fee to something more sensible like 12.5% it means they would get just over 3m on that 70m transfer, we would get 3 and a bit more. So as I said in a previous post we are squabbling over a few million pound. If we've identified him as a future baller who can do a job now, just get it done and build him up. Instead of yeah we think you're good but not that good.
Yea we should just get him in
We aren't in a position to be haggling at this stage even if they are taking the pi$$
I appreciate the way the club don't want to just throw it out like 'monopoly money' a la Moshman, but needs must

This. I don't mind accepting a sell on fee but not when we are tasking all the risk with a large fee with somebody so young. You carnt say we want top top dollar, no risk on him succeeding but if he does we get a lot more when sold....well u can be u will be told where to stow it and I hope we have. We have to balance the risk reward equation and at some point if the high fee and sell on clause don't balance out we walk away.
While I agree with you, we are getting a bit desperate now for a RW

I think Southampton know they hold the upper hand.

We’re desperate and the alternatives are diminishing.
Do they? The player wants out, we just signed another winger in Grealish, and no one else seems that interested in him. There are literally thousands of right wingers in world football. We should move on to the next target on the list if Southampton don't want to sell.

he could be 70m if he makes it
or worse 10m. not much upside from 50m to 70m when southampton are pricing the youngster as if he’s the next ballon dor winner

It's not over a few. The 25% sell on is the major issue given the ridiculous size of the initial fee for such an unproven player. You can either have a low fee and a big sell on or a high fee and a much lower sell on. You can't have both. It just doesn't work.

Really, so the club is not signing him because in the event we sell him for more than we pay for him we will then have to pay 25% of the profit we make to saints.

Why exactly in this scenario would that prevent us doing the deal, it's essentially a payment we have to make only if the player is an obvious great success

Because we take all of the down side risk if he flops. Which is a real risk given his age and the lack of evidence on his ability.

I don’t think we’re spending 40+ on a single player. We apparently balked at Leicester’s 30 million valuation for Fatawa, which doesn’t seem at all excessive looking at the fees being spent by others at the moment.

If you want a good player, I’m afraid you have to pay good money for them.

Worst scenario for them is they lose a few million on what they'd get next season but have a player to help their promotion push. By all accounts he's not a sulker (one of best attributes imo) and will get his "big" move before he's 20 anyway.

Still think it'll get done but possibly late.

But the 25% is only on the profit .
If he isn’t a success there is no profit .
If he is successful who really cares if we lose 25% of something we currently don’t have.
The important thing would be that he has performed well on the pitch for us .

Would we do any different?
Of course not. Look at Branthwaite, we pretty much priced him out of a move to Man Utd.
Any club which doesn't want to sell will always hold the upper hand (unless the player is a complete d1ckhead and downs tools)
Saints are just doing the exact same as we did to Man Utd - if you want him, you know the price. Either pay it or look elsewhere
