Ranking Everton Managers This Century

  1. Ancelotti - best we have had by far - the wall - made me happy
  2. Moyes (mark 2) Too soon but so far excellent
  3. Silva - not revisionist, but had some progressive ideas
  4. Martinez - was a little crazy but well intentioned
  5. Lampard - totally out of his depth but enthusiastic
  6. Moyes (mark 1) doour and very predictable
  7. Dyche - limited understanding of attack and goalscoring
  8. Koeman - just a horrible person
  9. Smith - don't remember that period very well
  10. Allardyce - embarrasment to the club - another horrible person
  11. Benitez - even more embarrasing and yes, another horrible person

Lampard 5th?

1 Moyes
2 Martinez
3 Ancelotti (overrated and phoned it in when he got wind of Reals interest)
4 Allardyce (did what was expected)
5 Silva (started great then lost Zouma and Gana which unravelled his system)
6 Koeman (started well but fell apart when Rom left)
7 Dyche (appreciated his stoicism when many managers would of phoned it in but ultimately a poor coach)
8 Smith (similar to Dyche but Smith was backed at the start of his tenure and failed when we bought in quality like Dacourt and Materazzi)
9 Benitez (no comment needed on this dislikeable relic)
10 Lampard (statistically our worst manager since Walker even though he was very likeable)

I was assessing them on how much they made me happy and personally I think Lampard did well at connecting with the fanbase. I thought we were ignoting performance results as that would just be a quick table of pts per game.
Ahh sorry I misinterpreted, yes I agree about Lampard connecting with the fanbase and him and Silva I really liked and was sad it didn't work out for them

By my reckoning we've had 11 Everton managers (excluding caretakers, i.e. managed less than ten games and counting Moyes mark 1 and 2) since 2000 and it's been a horribly lean period but what would be your ranking (based on their time at our club).

My "order of merit" would be:
  1. Ancelotti
  2. Moyes (mark 2)
  3. Silva
  4. Koeman
  5. Moyes (mark 1)
  6. Martinez
  7. Smith
  8. Dyche
  9. Lampard
  10. Allardyce
  11. Benitez
I'd be interested in how everyone compares their tenures in charge of the club beyond simply the win ratio.

For me, Ancelotti was a dream, I'm probably being sympathetic towards Smith (I was still a callow youth in my thirties), harsh on Allardyce (but the football was truly awful) and I never did and never would accept Benitez of our great club.
Dyche and Benitez joint bottom. Koeman just above them.

Sam has to much higher.
Given the squad he inherited and how little he was allowed to improve it (and some of the players bought for him), to finish where we did under him was a miracle.
