He played over 1800 league minutes, so over half of those available at just 18 last season mate, only Saka and Greenwood have matched that from under 20s the past 6 years.

If he signs he'll play the vast majority of games this season
Oh he would play , no doubt but he's no where near the finished article.

That's ok provided he plays like a £40 million player straight away. Can he ? That's the question.

Buying a player to develop is great but not when you lash a huge proportion of your budget on them and need them to perform straight away.

Why would he need to play like a £40mil player straight away?

He'll be on a 5 year contract and likely unless sold for a large profit, granted an extension.

It doesn’t matter if he’s the finished article or not, he’s still going to be better than anyone else we have on the right.

Can he produce as you would expect from a £40 million player now BD ?
£40M is an average fee these days....why are you expecting him to be prime-Ronaldo at 18? Theres lots of players who have moved in the £30M-£40M fee bracket who are either 'potential' or have pretty average seasons. Not sure why we need him to be the finished article immediately....do you think even spending this amount on a player gets us anywhere near the top 6-10 considering what they've already spent over the last 5 yrs and continue to spend?
Spending £40M on players keeps us above 17th these days.

That goes without saying.

BIt surely that's not the yardstick that we need to measure the deal by.
Who decides if he is playing at a level that 40m players should be at?

What if he just plays well, could it be said that he is only at the level of a 30m player.

How well a player is doing is very subjective.

If he improves the threat on the right wing, helps create chances, then that will certainly do for a start.

It will be a big move and a big change for a young player, he will need time to settle properly at the club.

If he does sign at all.
