Getting Older.....Mens edition

50 next year. Waking up to go to the toilet every night now. Add in that I struggle to get back to sleep after and I am shattered at work all day means being older sucks.

Only thing I do take regularly, but have been for years, is a fish, flaxseed & starflower oil supplement (Triple Omega 3-6-9 from H&B) which I do find is good for a tricky knee joint and a multivitamin, which I’ve changed to a 50+ version (which is probably exactly the same as the regular one but costs more)

Also drink a nootropic coffee alternative that has mushrooms and various other stuff that is supposed to be good for cognitive function. Can never recall what it’s called 🤣
Is that that Rainbow Dust Coffee? My mate I mountain bike with takes that. Says its made a world of difference. He's also balding and forgetful but I'll wait until Christmas to see if there are any reversals to 'Father-Time' due to this Mushroom inspired coffee flavoured Intagram drink.

At 52, I have been tempted by NAD supplements and to a lesser extent testosterone boosters.
Biggest reason I’ve not bothered trying them is Joe Rogan seems to be a proponent of them which makes me think they are scam for weak minded plebs.
Seen these and NMN and have wondered if they do work. The fact that Rogan is as smooth as a bowling ball suggests not. But he is very good at those conspiracy theory broadcasts. Always listening, very astute and ready. 2 mins into trying to listen to any broadcast and I'm doom scrolling on some forum already.

I'm 34, got a hair transplant earlier this year. May or may not work, but if I didn't give it a go I'd be regretting it when I'm older. Now in terms of regular stuff I take, Minoxidil (hair growth), Multi Vits, Collagen & Biotin, Additional Protein (Vegetarian so don't get as much naturally as I should do), and finally a regular dose of CBD to help with sleep and relaxation as I'm anxious virtually every evening/night.
Was the transplant a success? Another friend I know is 6 weeks back from Turkey and got a haircut for the first time in years last week. He was super chuffed.

I was asked if I paid OAP rates. A particularly unpleasant kick to the stones that. And in my shocked state I didn't even agree so had to pay full price.

How I now see you. :)

Id say so. I didn't have the guts to go to Turkey, the idea of it all etc, so went the Liver Buildings (fully recommend), about £3k overall.

The brand is MUD:WTR but I image they’re all much of a muchness in terms of health benifits.
Taste is where they will vary wildly I suspect.
It’s a difficult one for me to say if there are any cognitive benefits, I certainly still struggle with concentration and forgetting things but maybe it would be worse without it! (Probably not)

Main reason I started taking it was anecdotal/ limited medical reviews on Lions mane an it’s potential to stave off neurodegenerative diseases.
Again probably hokum but I quite like the taste of the stuff regardless of any benefits now.

Been off work all week with a shoulder/kneck issue that came on before the game on saturday and got worse as the day went on.

Have booked a phsysio session for the end of the month as i have had kneck and shoulder issues over the last year. The impact of doing a desk based job and two young ones under two. Constant hunching over.

I hit the big 5-0 this year and looking back on the previous decade there are some things/functions I've noticed have definitely deteriorated.

Fringe - Much further back than it was
Hair Growth - Nose/Ears/Shoulders/Back all grow hair quicker and in colour compared to my scalp
Recovery - After exercise or even a long hike I've started to have a 30 min nap.
Focus - I now excel at procrastination. A doom scroll can go on for hours
Memory - what was I talking about? Whats the word I'm thinking of? Who are you??
Outlook - While a very jovial character I can see the expiry date on myself and know that time is in fact not as eternal as I thought in my youth.

I know all of the above is caused by (in simplistic terms) a decrease in Testosterone and an increase in Dopamine as we grow older but are any of you taking extra supplements or planning trips to Turkey or committed to finding the fountain of youth in an effort to counteract these aging side effects?
I am 65, and as a neighbour of mine tells me - didn't wake up dead today, so all is good.

Add diabetes and all of the above applies to me especially the bit about going to Turkey, not for medical/cosmetic reasons, just to enjoy that fabulous country and culture (reminiscence of past holidays, and plans for future ones are all beneficial, to me).
Have always thought having a glass half full attitude is part of the process of feeling good, and therefore not dreading the next day.

I've heard the reply, "Still Vertical!", to the question, "How are you today?"
