From many podcasts, books , articles etc the three most important things that are mentioned time and time again are sleep, nutrition, exercise. I’m lucky I’m retired so am relatively regular in my sleeping habits, because I run a lot I need the recovery and aim for 9 hours in bed. Not all of that is good sleep, I’m up at least once per night for a pee, if I take too much liquid it’s twice, then I struggle to get back to sleep. When I go to bed there’s no distraction from tv, phone, book etc it’s into bed , go to sleep . Usually works about 90% of the time.

When I was working I was in the pub most nights and usually went to bed around 1 am then up at 6.30 pm for work. I retired during covid but unfortunately my local did not reopen afterwards so now I tend to go to bed around 11 pm but still get up around 6.30 am - at the insistence of my cat. Both before, and after retirement I always read before turning the light off, a habit of a lifetime. I usually am asleep within a minute, at most, of lights out. I also need to get up at least once during the night to pee. As it happens I am one of the ones who can sleep just about anywhere, including on buses, trains, planes etc. I am also prone to taking a nap late afternoon or early evening - I always refer to it as a power nap (usually about 20 minutes of so).

We all know that you're supposed to have about eight hours of uninterrupted sleep so you don't feel crap the following day. Is this true for you ? Do you wish you could sleep a longer/shorter time ?

I often wish I could sleep longer than my usual 6 hours or so, and when I do I feel markedly more sprightly. Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be any rhyme nor reason why this happens. What are your remedies for the eternal problem of, first trying to get to sleep, and secondly, getting a decent night's kip ?
Try magnesium glycinate or whatever it's called! It really does work for better sleep!

And in the dinner break at work, a bloke I worked with in an office would regularly eat his sandwiches then put feet up on desk and have a 20 min kip and knew when to wake up!!, said it would refresh him for afternoon, I would just feel sick and sluggish.
I used to work with a fella we called dangerous Dave, he actually fell asleep once on a 5 minute drive to our yard… problem was he was driving at the time …. And that I swear to you is a true story

40 + years of shifts have shattered any sleep patterns.
Wake up most nights a few times.
If on early turns its not worth the bother some night,
Nod off wake up after an hour or two then can't get back to sleep.
Told my kids dont entertain them unless they have know other choice.
If I had my time again wouldn't have ever done a day of them.
No good for the body or the mind .

In bed around 11, wake up around 5.30 / 6.

If the weather is good, I’ll go out and do a quick 10K run, if not I’ll take the dog out.

I like getting up an hour earlier than everyone else, as it just gives you that little hour of peace, before all the daily crap starts.
