Oh Wayne was a star no doubts But CH polished him up, football passing wise - Colin could split a defence with his eyes shut ....

….like Rooney, Harvey was a top young player both supremely gifted. Harvey was a tough man and a disciplined coach, I think that aspect of his character is less appreciated. He mixed it with the real tough guys.

I doubt Rooney spent a lot of time with Harvey but I’d think they’d have chatted lots about the game, mindset etc. you don’t teach players like Rooney (or Harvey) how to pass a football, they are supreme talents.

@Joey66 and @Eggs ... the creative side of CH's game made me think of a musician ... compltely at home with his instrument and making something beautiful without seeming effort (although he could rat with the best of them when needed! )

….18 goals in 320 games shows where his strength was, I remember he found it difficult to shoot straight with those bandy legs yet he scored a couple of famous goals. Great player, great coach.

CH had the ability to slide rule most passes through to Jimmy Husband - Teams sussed this out & put two defenders on Jimmy at half time - Wilf Dixon had a right go at Colin whats happened to the through balls to Jimmy - Colin retorted back they have two men on him - so 2nd half Bally used Morrissey & the game was won - we just mixed our through ball system up - plus it was the days when a defenders could kick Husband up in the air ....
Jimmy was so fast too - a great outlet.....

He replaced Roy Vernon as an inside forward - the fans got on his back as he was never a Roy Vernon player - The Catt magically played in at the old wing half position & eventually the Holy Trinity was evolved - Bobby Robson of Ipswich at home stated in the press he had never seen pure football from us like it we were 3-0 up at half time - he stated all 3 should be in the England side ....as CH stated 1968 onwards were the start of the magic in 1969/70 the midfield was disjointed as Harvey & Ball were missing a lot of games our tremendous start, & finishing games plus a certain Alan Whittle plus Tommy Jackson mid season won us the title ..... plus a no 9 who scored for fun too ;)
