Yeh it’s that vanity screaming through in his character here that reminded me of Bateman. Has he done an American character before?

That was a bit of a shock wasn’t it?
On your recommendation I am trying again. This will be my 3rd attempt. As you suggest I have failed in the first series twice already but I think a lot of this might have been down to Thomas Jane. I never quite got over his turn as the Punisher. Having loved the comics I don’t think I’ve ever felt quite so let down.
Get through the first series and you’ll enjoy it

We watched the first episode last night and I didn't hate it. It may well be affection for the series and characters blinding me.
That 'quirky' all business detective looks like she's going to get very tedious very quickly though. And the "No cameras detected" mobile phone app the woman mooching around the apartment was using had me rolling my eyes.
Absolutely reeks of writers who can't be bothered addressing and working their way around practical realities in a story which doesn't bode well. Like a high end hotel that apparently has zero security cameras.
Though to be fair the original series of Dexter as a whole jumped the realism shark pretty early in it's run.

Ballard was a decent watch and is set up nicely for a 2nd series whilst still closing off the 1st series storyline.
